Armstrong Okoflex is making a real impact in Europe! 🇮🇪 The winger was on target again tonight, scoring the opener as Levski Sofia cruised to a 4-0 victory over Borac to seal their place in the next round of Champions League qualifying. It continues an excellent start to the European campaign for Okoflex, who also found the net in the first leg, making it two goals across the tie. A player with a high ceiling and is absolutely flying in Bulgaria.

Ideal start for Sinclair Armstrong in Goztepe colours as he scored after 28 minutes against Gorica in his first appearance for the club! 🇮🇪 Hopefully the first of many for the striker.

Joey O'Brien's departure from Shelbourne came as no surprise after a difficult run of results. The performances had fallen away, confidence was gone and it had reached the point where a change in the dugout felt inevitable. Did Shelbourne make the right decision? 💬

Trailblazing Like Pico? Can Russell Create History With Dominican Republic? Aidan Russell Vargas has been called up to the Dominican Republic Under 23 squad for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo. It runs 24 July to 8 August, 100 years after the Games began, and marks the third time the country has hosted them. The 20 year old central midfielder came through at Lusk United and Skerries Town before Shelbourne's schoolboy setup. Captain of the 2020 Kennedy Cup squad before Covid cancelled the tournament, he signed for Dundalk's academy after the 2021 season. He’s represented Ireland too having played a part in our U18 squad at the 2023 Centenary Shield. At Dundalk he made his first team breakthrough scoring against Malahide in last season's Leinster Senior Cup. The switch to the Dominican Republic came in 2024 when called up by the U20s earning three caps including the CONCACAF Championship opener against El Salvador. Those caps led to Under 21 recognition, and now this Under 23 call up. Though he attracted interest from Longford Town he left for Home Farm in January 2026 and recently made the move to New Jersey Copa FC in the US. They play in USL League Two, the fourth tier of the US pyramid, based in Metuchen, New Jersey. Theres certainly parallels with the Pico Lopes story who went from representing Ireland at underage to making headlines with Cape Verde! Though the Dominican Republic have their fair share of talent including Mariano formerly of Real Madrid…. They’re yet to qualify for a World Cup with baseball the bigger sport there. So far, the closest they have come is through the age grade sides. A run to the 2022 Under 20 final, beating Guatemala on penalties in the semifinal, delivered a first Under 20 World Cup in 2023 and a first Olympics at Paris 2024. 2025 brought a first Gold Cup appearance, but they lost to Mexico and Costa Rica and drew with Suriname, going out at the group stage. A first World Cup for the senior team, though, is still to come. Could Aidan play his part in making history for them in future? 👀

Not every player should be taking stutter penalties ⚽ If you're going to use that technique, you have to master it. Stopping completely before striking the ball only makes the goalkeeper's job easier. Should players stop using stutter penalties? 💬

Terrible news for Jaden Umeh, who is set to miss around three months after suffering an thigh injury from Emerson Royal’s reckless challenge during Benfica’s pre-season clash with Flamengo. It was a huge moment for Umeh, making his first start for Benfica’s first team, but his night was cruelly cut short after Emerson Royal’s needless tackle as the ball was running out of play. It’s a heartbreaking setback for one of Ireland’s brightest young talents, who looked to be on the verge of making his breakthrough into Benfica’s senior side. While this injury will temporarily halt his momentum, there’s no doubt Jaden will be back stronger than ever. Wishing Jaden a full and speedy recovery.

Haaland's World Cup performance showed why he's now in the conversation as the best player in the world. His movement, physicality and finishing have taken his game to another level, making him almost impossible to defend. Is Haaland the best player in the world right now?

Barry Coffey is beginning to find his feet in the USL Championship with Hartford Athletic! 🇮🇪 Since making the move to the United States, the former Cobh Ramblers forward has started nine of his first 10 appearances and is now beginning to show the goalscoring form that earned him the transfer. Earlier this week, Coffey produced his standout display yet, coming off the bench after just 16 minutes with Hartford trailing 2-0 before scoring twice to rescue a dramatic point for his side. He followed that up last night by opening the scoring in Hartford’s 2-1 US Open Cup victory over Westchester. It was another eventful night for the attacking midfielder, as he also missed a penalty and was sent off in the 82nd minute after receiving a second yellow card. Despite the late drama, it’s encouraging to see Coffey hitting form in America and showing exactly why Hartford brought him over after his impressive spell with Cobh.
