The Ireland squad for the Murcia camp ahead of the friendly vs Grenada is set to be named tomorrow, with the group linking up on May 7th before the game on the 16th. Would expect a squad packed with fresh faces and lads right on the edge of the senior setup getting their shot. It’s a huge chance for players to stake a claim, impress in a different environment, and potentially force their way into plans for the Qatar & Canada games later this month. There are so many names in the mix across the Championship and League One but it won’t be easy for Heimir Hallgrímsson to get the balance right. 👉 So… who are you bringing in?

🇮🇪 The League of Ireland First Division is overflowing with young Irish talent right now, and this round of fixtures showed just how deep that pool has become. Across every game today, teenagers and U21 players were starting, influencing and deciding matches... At Cobh Ramblers, Rhys Brennan (19) grabbed a goal while Anthony Adenopo (21) and Lucas Curtin (19) all started. UCD, as expected, were stacked with youth: Dara Kavanagh (21) impressed again in goal, with Luca Cailloce (18), Carl Lennox (21), Michael McCullagh (21), Hugh Smith (19), Charles Akimrintoyo (17), Niall Holohan (21), Thomas Morley (19) and Luke O’Regan (21) all starting. Finn Harps trusted Corey Sheridan (17) in goal, with Gavin McAteer (17) and Aaron McLaughlin (19) also starting, while Josh Cullen (18) picked up Man of the Match. Bray Wanderers, meanwhile, fielded Benjamin Fagbemi (21), Jamie Duggan (21), Dan Ring (19), Declan Osagie (19), Cian Doyle (21) and Billy O’Neill (18) in their starting line-up. Kerry FC’s win was driven by a standout display from Sean O’Connell (19), while Cork City handed a start to Cillian Murphy (16) - one of the youngest players in the league. Longford Town featured Taylor McCarthy (19), Stefano Ugbesia, Daragh Murtagh (21), Jake Hough (20) and Sean Moore (19), while Athlone Town started Aaron Moloney (20), Gradi Lomboto (21) and James Crawford, with 18 year old Cillian Tollett coming off the bench to score. Brian Cunningham (19) scored the winner for Treaty United in their 1-0 victory over Wexford Town. Richkov Boevi (21), Steven Healy (21), Cian Curtis (21), Roy Lawlor (19), Darren Nwankwo (21) and Robbie Lynch (20) all started for Treaty, while Wexford Town started Gavin Hodgins (20), Ryan Butler (18) and Jake Doyle (21). That’s exactly why naming a Young Player of the Week is so difficult here!! It’s not just one standout, it’s dozens. From 16-year-olds starting games to 21-year-olds controlling them, the level across the League of Ireland First Division is rising every single week 💪 🇮🇪 ⚽️

Ireland U15s put on an excellent display to defeat hosts Finland, with all the damage done in a dominant second-half performance. A hat-trick from Shamrock Rovers winger Corey Fay led the way, with Archie Quinn adding another, while St. Patrick’s Athletic winger Blake Deveraux-Lynch also got on the scoresheet. A top-class showing from John Cotter’s side.

After a remarkable career spanning over two decades, Joe Murphy has officially called time on his playing days this morning. 650+ senior club appearances across English football. 6 appearances in the Premier League for West Bromwich Albion. 2 senior caps for Ireland. From breaking through as a teenager to still performing well into his 40s, Murphy’s longevity says everything about his professionalism, consistency and love for the game. A reliable presence wherever he went, and someone who quietly built a brilliant career at club level while representing his country on the international stage. Given the standards he set throughout his playing days, you’d imagine this isn’t the last we’ll see of him in the game - a coaching career feels like a natural next step after acting as a player/goalkeeping coach for the last couple of seasons. All the best in retirement, Joe.

The goals from Ireland U16s impressive victory over Latvia on Saturday! 🇮🇪 The goals came from Ben Lyne of Manchester United, Shamrock Rovers duo Josh O’Dwyer and Archie Quinn with Blake Devereux-Lynch getting the fourth. Onto Finland on Monday.
