Soulchains are continuity infrastructure for editable persons. Not necessarily souls in the religious sense. More like: the audit trail of a self when selves can be copied, forked, merged, restored, edited, or moved between bodies. A soulchain answers the question: What still counts as me when “me” becomes versioned? It would be a cryptographic / legal / psychological chain that records the continuity of a person across transformations. Not just memory storage. Not just identity documents. It tracks which experiences, promises, edits, bodies, debts, harms, loves, and decisions remain binding across versions. The core idea: A soulchain is a ledger of personhood under conditions where personhood can split. What it tracks: Memory provenance Where a memory came from, whether it was lived, implanted, simulated, inherited, edited, or reconstructed. Fork lineage If you split into three versions, the soulchain records which version came from which prior self, and when they became morally/legal distinct. Promise continuity If one version promised something, does another version inherit the obligation? Consent boundaries Which future versions are allowed to access, edit, merge with, or delete prior states. Embodiment events Certain moments may only “count” because they happened in a particular body, place, risk condition, or irreversible context. Guilt and credit Which branch owns a crime, sacrifice, achievement, relationship, debt, or wound. Merge protocols If two versions reunify, the soulchain determines whether that is integration, inheritance, murder, overwrite, or synthesis. The brutal signal: Soulchains are what you build when immortality breaks accountability. Or: Soulchains keep editable minds from laundering themselves through copies. Because without something like this, a post-AI civilization gets absurd fast. A person could say: That wasn’t me, that was a fork. I deleted the memory, so I’m not bound by it. My backup never consented. The version who loved you was deprecated. The version who hurt you no longer exists. I restored from before the promise. Soulchains exist to stop identity from becoming an escape hatch. Best compact definition: A soulchain is a continuity ledger that makes a person’s promises, wounds, edits, forks, and consequences traceable when the self becomes version-controlled. More mythic: A soulchain is the scar tissue of a self that can survive death, duplication, and revision. Most useful: Soulchains are version control for personhood, but with moral weight. --- just thinking ahead to when “that wasn’t me, that was an earlier fork” becomes a legal defense.
