Yes it was a steep price to pay, but let me explain WHAT they paid for & WHY they did First & foremost, the West runs through a 7’4 alien & probably will for the next decade All the “contenders” in the league have an all star C, all DEF C, or All NBA C DEN (Jokic), SAS (Wemby), OKC (Chet & IHart), NYK (KAT), CLE (Mobley & JA), IND (Zubac), PHI (Embiid), MIN (Gobert), DET (Duren), MIA (Bam & Giannis), HOU (Sengun), UTH (JJJ & thanks for Kessler) You HAVE to have a very good C to be successful in this league. 2 of the top 3 teams in the West from last szn have MVP C’s, & the team that doesn’t starts 2 C’s, one being an all star/all defensive C. Kessler isn’t even a top 10 paid C in the NBA. But he’s definitely a top 3-5 defensive C who’s also starting to shoot 3’s (went 6-8 in 5 games last szn before going down). And this isn’t even fully about Kessler. When you have Luka Doncic, you pair him w/ a great C. He will make Kessler A LOT better, & Kessler makes Luka better. That’s maximizing talent. You’re not just paying for Kessler, you’re paying for a better Luka, & really paying for elevated play from any of your ball handlers. MANY facets of the game improve with Kessler. That’s what you gave up the assets for. Dont get it twisted, Kessler is a huge addition for the Lakers
