Let me introduce you to Beyond the Pins: the Second Frame, a point-and-click adventure game for the NES! The game is 100% done and we're in bug testing mode at the moment. With over 100 screens spanning multiple areas of the town, there's plenty to do! Kickstarter coming soon!

@stevemagness In softball, that's where the complexes are. Near SF our choices are either ~40 miles for lower competition or ~110 miles for higher competition. There are no other places with more than one field.

Can someone explain why some 10 year old needs to travel hundreds of miles for competition that they almost certainly could have found locally? Travel leagues for youth sports should be banned.

@stevemagness Lazy parents create #4, schools try to solve with #5, actual result is #6, which prevents #1. Lazy teachers use #7, which lowers #2 and increases #3.

Follow up with more info: The data isn't perfect. And yes, the x-axis needs fixed (it's not my graph.) But follow up data including 2023 and 2024, shows the same trend, where satisfaction does not increase. Why does this occur? What can we do? In no particular order: 1. Pay teachers more. Incentives should align for good teachers to keep teaching. 2. Increase the status of the profession. We need more & better talent. We've made teaching low status. 3. Address combative parenting-teacher relationships. 4. Behavior issues have skyrocketed 5. We've outsourced too much to schools. Schools have to do and handle everything. They become de-facto mental health, behavioral, etc. places. 6. Admin bloat. 7. Tech in the classroom was a mistake. Social media is ruining both kids and parents. Essentially, when you teach in a classroom, you've got: -People telling you that you're indoctrinating kids. -Parents in denial saying Jimmy would never do that. -Way too much bureaucracy, no autonomy. So the good talent leaves, because the pay sucks and environment sucks. We've essentially created environments that go against everything we know about motivation and thriving: autonomy, competency, and belonging. We've created spaces that are controlling, adversarial, with little room to grow. Politicians have made this worse. By using education as a lightning rod to create us vs. them. All while passing legislation that creates bureocracy and paperwork like crazy. This has occurred in every state, red and blue. In places with unions and without. Education is everyone's business. It makes for a better society. source: fs24.formsite.com/edweek/images/…

In 2008, 62% of teachers said they were very satisfied with their job. In 2022, that dropped to 12%. We've got a serious problem brewing in education...

I created a unique race predictor calculator... It uses 2-3 times, and classifies you as more speed or endurance orientated... and offers training suggestions based on your profile: Try it out: scienceofrunning.com/race-predictor…

@stevemagness There are so many technical skills needed in baseball/softball before the talent gulf even appears that getting better coaching absolutely matters. Only when there's an expected ROI is it a problem. How much are family trips around the country worth?

The harsh truth is...youth sports feeds the delusions of too many parents in order to extract $$$ from them. They say things like it's "an investment." Just imagine the $$ "payoff" Meanwhile, they don't tell them the talent gulf can't be made up by more private coaching

For the love of god, don't go insanely all in on your kids sport. You are making your kid have a singular identity with the pressure of essentially his parents love riding on his success or failure... Can we please stop this madness?
Anthony Bradley@drantbradley

They spend $16K on their son’s travel baseball career. The kid has a nutritionist. Parents are spending $16k a year on travel baseball and calling it ‘opportunity.’ It’s not opportunity. It’s parental foolishness & idolatry dressed up as ambition & success. #WormwoodFTW

I'm waiting for the health influencer who brings back long walks... I've got the sales pitch ready... Do you know what the man who won the most Olympic medals in track & field history said was key to his training? Long Walks. You too can become a champion with 3+ hour walks!

@stevemagness Yup it was totally the 4x4 intervals, not the other 5 HOURS A WEEK they were doing for YEARS

So the reported takeaway is often wrong It’s not about the 4x4 interval It’s that a balanced training approach like used in modern endurance training does the trick Build a base, extend with high end aerobic, add intensity. Then maintain with mostly easy and a bit intensity

A good high school varsity miler is training more than your average 3 hour marathoner. Pretty wild to think about. What this means? For most serious amateur marathoners: the roadblock to improvement is almost always volume.

So honored and grateful to have worn Stanford across my chest for these last four years. 4 amazing teams, 3 super regionals, 2 World Series, and 1 unforgettable college experience. Wouldn’t change a thing. ♥️🌲

@pmccall777 @stevemagness If he didn't push the pace, would there have been more he would have lost to in the sprint? No guarantee he beats those he dropped if the last 5k is easier.

Super impressive run at the Boston Marathon for Mantz. That 2:05 moves him into the contender category of major marathons. I love that he’s not intimidated. Not afraid to lead or make major moves.

HE'S BACK! In jail. Remember Robert Sonza? I've done several investigations about his long record of breaking into cars, theft, domestic violence, running from police, crashing into cars and homes. I showed how several judges kept giving him another chance, letting him out on probation after a few months in jail, and how he kept committing crimes. In January, Judge Bruce E. Chan said, in effect, this time would be different and the he would make Sonza his personal project, requiring him to check in regularly. Chan again let Sonza out. Sonza is back in jail, this time in Santa Clara County, accused of felony grand theft after stealing more than $950 of goods from the Macy's there. Adult Probation in San Francisco has already petitioned the court to have his probation revoked. Judge Chan said in January that Sonza will have to serve 3 years, 8 months if he reoffends. I'll be watching. You can see my past tweets and stories starting here: tinyurl.com/58shwjsu
