Every Creator Deserves a Strategy Team. BUT, not all creators can afford one. That's where we come in. Top level YouTube advice, 100th of the price.

Soon I want to put @retti_ai to the ultimate test… Make it compete with @MarioJoos I’m not sure how we format it, or how it’ll be scored. But if I can get anywhere close to someone who’s considered a leader in the retention niche. $39 a month is the biggest bargain ever.

I've spent the last 3 months building the best YouTube retention tool in industry. And I finally got time to dedicate some time to the brand, and UI. Rhett is now the face of the brand, and appears throughout the site as your personal strategist. What do you think? @retti_ai

Hey.. so... After some thought.. we're rebranding! Domain has been purchased, new branding is being designed. We're a retention tool. Our name should reflcet that.

@Barnical_ Honoured to be the tool that made you cave. Ideation is definitely not our strong suit.. But retention is 😎

I used @ideated_ai to analyse the correlation between video length and YouTube views, across 500,000 videos from the last 9 years. (my most interesting breakdown yet) The relationship between video length and views might surprise you. • Longer videos are not only more consistent, but easier. • Short videos used to be better, now they’re the worst. • Average run time has increased 6 minutes in 9 years. (every video in the database is a 1.5x+ outlier) The current numbers; 8-10 min: 107K median views — 31.5% never crack 50K 10-15 min: 117K median views — 29.9% never crack 50K 15-20 min: 132K median views — 27.3% never crack 50K 20-30 min: 140K median views — 25.9% never crack 50K 30-45 min: 140K median views — 26.4% never crack 50K 45-60 min: 135K median views — 27.0% never crack 50K 60+ min: 129K median views — 27.7% never crack 50K The pattern is consistent. Every bracket from 8 minutes to 30 minutes shows a steady climb in both median views and success rate over the last 9 years. The average creator is improving. 20-30 minutes is the peak for consistency. 30-45 minutes is the peak for going viral — 13% of videos in that bracket hit 1M+, the highest of any length. Short videos are not just lower performing. They are genuinely harder to drive views with. Nearly 1 in 3 videos under 10 minutes never reaches 50K views. For 20-30 minute videos, that failure rate drops to 1 in 4. The floor tells the clearest story. Bottom 25% of views by length bucket average: 8-10 min: 37K views 10-15 min: 40K views 15-20 min: 45K views 20-30 min: 48K views 30-45 min: 47K views Even in a worst case scenario, longer videos perform better. The floor rises with length because longer videos deliver more watch time — and the algorithm distributes accordingly. The outlier score paradox. 8-10 minute videos have the highest outlier score — 10.3x above their channel baseline. So why are they the hardest to drive views with? Because outlier score measures performance relative to your own channel average. A 10 minute video beating a 20K subscriber channel's average by 10x still underperforms a 25 minute video doing 7x on a 200K subscriber channel in absolute views. Short videos that break out do so dramatically. But for most creators, the data shows it is simply easier to accumulate consistent views with 20-45 minute content. The high outlier score on short videos is a signal of breakout potential, not typical outcome. The 31.5% failure rate is the more honest number. Longer videos have significantly more wiggle room, and forgiveness, due to the higher average AVD you’re able to get, than with shorter videos. Now look at how this has shifted over time. Median views by length, year by year: 2019: short videos led. Long content underperformed. 2021: 25-45 min pulling 2-3x the median views of short. 2023: 25-45 min at 457K median vs 247K for short. 2024: 45 mins+ hitting 481K median vs 235K for short. More than double. 2025: long content still leads despite overall views declining platform-wide - likely down to saturation and more creators. 2026: medium length (15-25m) leads, short content dead last in every bucket. In 2019, a 30 minute video was a gamble. By 2024, short videos were generating less than half the median views of long-form. By 2026, short is consistently the worst performing length in both average and median views. And creators have responded. Median video duration across our database: 2017: 13.9 minutes 2019: 13.7 minutes 2021: 15.2 minutes 2023: 15.9 minutes 2024: 16.8 minutes 2025: 19.4 minutes 2026: 19.7 minutes Six full minutes longer in under a decade. Creators collectively figured out what the data confirms — and adjusted accordingly. Why is this happening? YouTube optimises for watch time and session time, not clicks. A 25 minute video holding 40% retention contributes more to both signals than a 10 minute video holding 60%. The viewer who sits down to watch 30 minutes is self-selecting. They showed up to stay. That behaviour is exactly what the algorithm rewards with distribution. Meanwhile average views per video have fallen every year since 2018 as the creator pool expands. In that environment, the videos cutting through are the ones holding attention longest. Length is not just a content decision anymore. It is a distribution strategy. The summary the data actually supports: Short videos (8-10 min): highest breakout potential, highest failure rate, lowest floor, hardest to drive consistent views. Medium videos (20-30 min): lowest failure rate, highest median views, easiest to get consistent viewership. Long videos (30-45 min): best shot at 1M+, 13% hit that mark, highest ceiling for top performers. Most creators default to short because it feels safer. The data says the opposite is true.

Ideated is a faceless channels paradise, and it’s come out at the right time. - Find ideas - Build them out - Write the scripts - Review the edits Automating and streamlining all the most tedious tasks. I’ll be using it myself to have 5 branded channels going by 2027.
