Day 1 ➡️ Day 30. You can laugh, downplay how hard I work, post the same meme in the comments over and over again, but I don’t give a fuck. I am very proud of myself. Ive spent the last 10 years of my life boozing and shoving rocks up my nose and after all those years i never felt as good as I feel today💪

@PaulSkallas It’s a $1500 tent (SHIFTPODIII) but we’ve got enough use of it already as a hotel-replacement that it has more than paid for itself. Two years of doing Christmas in Arizona at the family home where there’s not enough extra rooms, would have been 7 nights per year at ~$130 a night

Now that everyone is driving a large SUV with lots of space we can start designing them to be places you can spend a weekend in comfortably without having to rent an airbnb or hotel. RVs look terrible and no one buys them for their primary transport. This SUV could also be a place you live in for short term if you want to save money on rent

Holy ***t. I just got a quote to replace our HVAC unit, ductwork and everything, on a 2,000 sq/ft house, for $45,000. No joke. The guys that quoted know I have a building co (subs mainly do new construction), are a reputable company but quoting normal equipment (nothing super efficient), and it’s admittedly a bit more work than standard—lath and plaster to cut through, and no insulation in the walls (historic house) so a 5 ton unit. But this blew me away. I was expecting $30k tops. Told them so and they didn’t budge. Is this the new normal??! How can anyone afford anything? Guy also said these new units keep getting more complex and only to text them to last ~15 years. From a rent perspective, over 15 years that’s $3k/year without considering time value of money, annual maintenance, or actually utility costs, JUST TO COVER THE HVAC UNIT ITSELF. Obviously going to get more quotes, but if this is remotely real…rents are going to go up a lot more, and homeownership, even if people can afford to buy, people won’t be able to afford to maintain.

Does anyone have any good book recommendations about the Russian far east? There seems to be very little about it in the bookstores I visit.
