(1/2) I promised a while ago on the #returnofthesequel Instagram, that I’d drop a tease for a set of films covered in the book (the chapter headings are still under wraps for the moment). So as promised, here they are (for one chapter only).

Today marks the 30th Anniversary of FRIGHT NIGHT PART 2. Although it was initially shown at Stiges Film Festival in 1988, it wasn’t released theatrically until 1989. May 19th marks the US release. A fun sequel that is of course covered in RotS and has gained cult popularity.

@bigmikeleeder I believe so. I think there is also a reference/in-joke to Motley Crue from what I remember (but that might be the same line). Although I’ve written my piece for the book, I’ll have to revisit the film soon to see if I can spot any other in-jokes.

@returnsequel Great fun! And some nice injokes such as Monique Gabrielle commenting on her time as a groupie with Heather Locklears band if i recall...

Today marks the 30th Anniversary of THE RETURN OF SWAMP THING (1989) 🤘🏻. This fun and slightly cheesy monster mash sequel from Jim Wynorski is featured in Return of the Sequel (the first of a few Wynorski joints that’ll be covered). I know there are fans of this one 👍🏻

Was reminded (via Fangoria) that today marks the release of HELLO MARY LOU: PROM NIGHT II (1987). Although a sequel in name only, this remains one of my favourite films that is covered within the book. A Nightmare on Elm Street-esque supernatural horror / possession film.
