The connection between snowboarders Choi Gaon and Chloe Kim extends beyond the medal podium.
Kim began mentoring Choi nearly a decade ago and cheered Choi on as she passed Kim as the youngest X Games halfpipe gold medalist in 2023.
"I feel like a proud Mom. The future of snowboarding’s in good hands," Kim wrote on social media.
Then in Milan Cortina, Kim encouraged Choi after she had crashed on her first run. “You got this,” Kim told her. “You’re a badass snowboarder.”
Now the protégé has beaten her mentor as Choi became the youngest medalist in the Winter Games so far.

According to the Danish newspaper Politiken, a wealthy Trump supporter has quietly bought into Greenlandic companies.
John Bolton, Trump’s former national security adviser, has said that multibillionaire Ronald Lauder was the one who planted the idea of “buying” Greenland in Donald Trump’s mind—and even offered to act as an intermediary with Denmark. The 81-year-old Lauder has now personally invested in Greenland.
As reported by journalists Peter Baker and Susan Glasser in their 2022 book The Divider, Lauder later convinced Trump that acquiring Greenland was possible.
“One of my friends, a really, really experienced businessman, thinks we can get Greenland,” Trump said, according to Bolton.
Bolton also said that Lauder volunteered to serve as “an intermediary to the Danish government in negotiations over Greenland.”
Trump’s overtures were met with swift and unequivocal rejection from Greenland and Denmark and drew international condemnation. Nevertheless, Lauder defended Trump in a February op-ed in the New York Post, calling the criticism “wrong” and “short-sighted.”
“Trump’s Greenland concept was never absurd – it was strategic,” he wrote.
Lauder told Baker and Glasser that the idea was entirely his own and that his goal was to bring Greenland into the United States:
“I love maps. And I’ve always said: Look at the size of this. It’s enormous. It should be part of the United States.”
Lauder, heir to the Estée Lauder cosmetics empire, has used a fraction of his wealth to buy stakes in two smaller Greenlandic companies with ambitious plans—including exporting Greenlandic spring water to luxury markets in USA and exploring participation in a proposed hydropower project at Tasersiaq, Greenland’s largest lake, intended to supply an aluminum smelter.
His investments have not been publicly disclosed and do not appear in accessible corporate registries. The investor group, Greenland Development Partners, is registered in Delaware, known for opaque corporate laws and for sheltering companies seeking minimal public scrutiny.
Lauder has argued that Greenland could become “America’s next frontier,” invoking a term rooted in the United States’ 18th- and 19th-century westward expansion.

Much of the industry has been aggressively data-driven for so long that over generations of talent the ability (insututitionally and/or intellectually) to lead with your gut has become a lost art. This is why AAA is becoming perversely fascinated by indie. Indie doesn't have the data; must rely on gut. Sometimes you see games that are doing a very specific thing in AAA (following their gut, their heart) but it's still confined to the institutional practise of parsing it all through available data. The datasets are all increasingly trash because they can't predict breakout hits, nor predict failures. And so if you can't rely on data and you've lost the institutional 'gut instinct' that drives the furore of expression (defines a game), you get stuck. If public, panic. Become safe (which is dangerous). Hence: genres disappear, until indies create breakout hits and introduce new data: perverse attachment, etc etc.
Tl;dr it's because the means to do something you want to do have shrunk because of a bunch of silly shit.

Where is the outrage for Congo? The silence is deafening. Where’s your outrage for the rape capital of the world? Where 1 in 10 kids die before 5th birthday? Where women are force fed human flesh? Where little girls become mothers before 16?
