Breaking News: The National Freedom Party (NFP) has officially withdrawn from the KwaZulu-Natal Government of Provincial Unity (GPU).

The National Freedom Party (NFP) has suspended its only KwaZulu-Natal MPL, Mbali Shinga, for three months after she defied party instructions by voting against a motion to remove Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli. Shinga, who is also the MEC for Social Development, opposed the MK Party-backed motion despite being mandated to support it. The NFP’s leadership acted swiftly, withdrawing her from all party activities pending a disciplinary process. Shinga has confirmed receiving the suspension letter and says she will challenge the decision in court.

NFP NEC Demands Report from Mbali Shinga Over Vote Against KZN Premier The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Freedom Party (NFP) has instructed Mbali Shinga to submit a detailed report explaining her decision to vote against a motion of no confidence brought against the KwaZulu-Natal Premier. The NEC has set a deadline of tomorrow for the submission. Shinga’s vote has intensified long-standing tensions between her and the party leadership. The NFP NEC has previously attempted to institute disciplinary action against her. However, Shinga successfully approached the courts to halt the process, arguing that under the NFP constitution only her branch has the authority to discipline her, not the NEC. In a separate but related matter, the NEC also sought to recall Shinga from her deployment in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature. That move was similarly blocked by the courts after Shinga cited provisions of the party constitution which state that only the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) has the power to recall deployed members from the legislature. The PEC is currently chaired by Shinga herself. These legal interventions have effectively restrained the NEC from acting against her, deepening internal divisions within the party. The outcome of the requested report may determine the next steps the NFP leadership takes, as the party continues to grapple with internal governance disputes amid heightened political tensions in KwaZulu-Natal.

Shock and disbelief have gripped many following reports that DJ Warras, a well-known radio broadcaster and programme host, was shot and killed in the Johannesburg CBD earlier today. News of his alleged killing was first shared by Durban-based radio station Gagasi FM, where he previously worked, as well as by his friend Rob Hersov. Details surrounding the incident remain sketchy, and authorities have yet to issue an official statement. Police investigations are expected to clarify the circumstances of the shooting.

FACT Hosts Final New Year’s Eve Event. Event organisers FACT have announced that this New Year’s Eve will be their final event under the current partners. The decision follows months of concerns about closing times and marks the brand’s 30th milestone event. Since 2011, FACT has hosted late-night events twice a year and played a key role during the post-COVID recovery. The brand and its trademarks will be put up for sale in January 2026. 30 foreign nationals from Ethiopia and Bangladesh were intercepted at OR Tambo International Airport after allegedly attempting to enter South Africa using fraudulent visas. According to authorities, 14 are from Ethiopia and 16 from Bangladesh. Officials say the group tried to slip through a channel designated for South African passport holders. All suspects have been detained for immigration processing, with investigations now underway to establish the source of the fake visas.
