about viral conference scandal in last few days, i want to talk the the other side of this "academic" conferences. do you know why there's so many conferences in academic culture, what's actually that all about? you guys might give naive answer: which is to presenting the science. This answer is bullsh*t. publishing paper is enough for this job. so most of the conferences are for another reason: researcher need to spend their research grant, otherwise it will be bad for them if their research grant is not well spent, making their research is not well done, and the grant provider will not trust another grant to that researcher anymore. so, most conferences are there to circulate the grant money. Hence many conferences are organized by research institute or journal as one of the resource for their income, since participants using their research grant anyway and they dont care about the fee, organizer usually put registration fee high enough to get more money, and maybe they also create additional service such as hotel booking and sightseeing the city to get more money. haha. and the money will later be used to support journal or research institute itself. the only one who need networking in conferences are student or maybe postdocs. maybe sometime professor also want to take potential student to work for them if there are anything that special (rare). do we care about science and what are presented? depends on conferences, most of the time you will find many low quality conferences that the science is not the real goal, but business. of course there are real conferences that the goal is science, where the experts truly meet, discuss, and debate. but usually this is highly invited session, and very limited in participants, students / early career researchers most of the time are just viewers. in the end, most of the conferences are the business game. I agree there should be integrity, but if you can find hole in the game, it will be expected some of you will exploit it.

Zinc dapet, paracetamolnya dosisnya oke, probiotiknya dapet, minum renalyte juga. Kok bisa lolos ke conferencenya? Emng ga dibaca? Conferencenya abal? FYI katanya conferencenya bergengsi dan bukan abal ya gais. Kenapa bisa lolos? Saya highlight 3 alasan utama: 1. Karena yang disubmit buat diseleksi itu HANYA ABSTRAK. Ya paling 200-300 kata aja. Bukan riset keseluruhannya. Jadi kalo bisa nulis abstrak wahh itu menang banyak. 2. Karena BLIND REVIEW. Jadi reviewer Gak tau siapa yang nulis abstrak ini. Semuanya. Gada nama2nya, gada instansinya. Niatnya biar OBJEKTIF. Dan mereka juga asumsi peniliti2 yanh submit itu semuanya punya INTEGRITAS. Tapi juga jadi loophole ternyata. 3. Ya karena paper tim ini abstraknya WAH banget, datanya dari mancanegara dan pakai metode terbaru yang WAH. Jadi terlihat outstanding dibanding abstrak2 paper lain. Bisa baca pejelasan Mba W.O.D.D dibawah:
