@kscc07 @RockofAges66 Well I was talking about professional hockey in general, just the video I saw that made me think about it altogether was about ahl. I still felt it was important to acknowledge that on some level I was wrong about the salaries being comparable.

@googlyeyehockey No i agree! I definitely assumed poorly that ahl made more than they do which is my fault. We do have to remember in addition to salaries athletes have brand deals, endorsements, etc! So yeah i agree, overall point is teachers should be paid better!

@reyxmarie Ohhh I didn’t realize it was AHL. I was imagining like an NHL wag. It’s a complex discussion at that level because of the varying pay and work visa issues and whatnot but I do agree that teachers should be paid significantly more than they are

Sorry but I don’t really care if professional hockey players don’t get paid during the offseason and I don’t really care to hear their wives complain about it. People have been shitting on teachers for literally ever and the pay isn’t even comparable.

@GatorsSwampp i never said they should. Generally the conversation towards teachers is more negative than it is towards athletes. So I just don’t feel bad when someone points out that they don’t get paid in the offseason.

@DanielJones9417 @googlyeyehockey yea i said in a reply to my og post that i realize it is comparable to teacher salaries. But i think there is still a bit of double standard considering society tends to talk down on teachers. I also said we should just advocate for better pay all around.

@reyxmarie @googlyeyehockey Minimum salary for an AHL player is $53kUSD. Having to budget a pretty modest salary across the whole year with the expenses of being a pro athlete is genuinely a challenging thing. Lots of seasonal trades workers have the same issue. They should fight for better.

following up to say that after the fact I realize echl-ahl salaries are actually comparable to teachers salaries & I think the solution would be to advocate for better pay all around AND to stop saying teachers get paid for summer when really it’s just 10mo pay divided into 12.
