A new Republican Senator tried to pass a law last night that would increase minimum sentences for assaults against police officers, except for assaults on police officers on January 6. I went to floor to object and tell him how dangerous that is. Here's part of the exchange.

@ChrisMurphyCT Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is named the Larry Henderson act after an Ohio Deputy Sheriff, but everything I heard the guy say was about if applying to FEDERAL officers (ICE, FBI, Marshall’s, etc) so I don’t think this bill would apply to him or many other police officers.

@ChrisMurphyCT It sounds like this proposal is to pave way for ICE officers who might get “hurt” (not just killed)while carrying out no due process raids the ability to place someone who “hurts”them (maybe just a bruise)will automatically face a minimum of twenty years in prison. Chilling.

Professional sports needs a zero tolerance policy for criminals. If a player gets arrested, they should be released and banned from their league permanently. Our children look up to these players, it’s important we only give the spotlight to morally-upstanding athletes.
