@stephenkeeler Just watched a news article.about changing habits of the French. Seems like most of them eat breakfast in under 10 mins and the baguette is becoming less and less common for a longer shelf life sliced white loaf. Made me feel sad on all accounts😢

@DAMendelsohnNYC @JoyceCarolOates Yes, love your translation and audible version too and all the talks you have given on the work over the years. It adds to the readers understandings and I love that. I don't need a definitive version just something that helps me fill in gaps and makes me think more deeply

@JoyceCarolOates Here you go, dear Joyce!

congratulations on that extraordinary review in the Telegraph, Daniel. indeed it was thrilling to read such a thoroughly knowledgeable & sympathetic response to your translation.
(makes me realize that I am missing such elegantly composed, substantial reviews--what we have now are mostly just people's opinions without any special knowledge.)
to learn so much from just one review was a terrific experience (& I thought that I'd known a bit about Homer). as a favor, would you resend it?

1/ Today on #NightThoughtsOfAHomerTranslator, I want to talk about the way in which #Homer utilizes his line. Now the long, surf-like unspooling of each line of dactylic hexameter--six dactyls (LONG-short-short, sometimes LONG-LONG)--always has a break somewhere in the middle...

@HeyHeyDerekFaye Elastic waistband and you can be bare arsed in seconds. A real boon😂

@Mahler18601911 I have been bitten by the Don Giovanni bug since I saw a production by opera North in the UK must be early 2000's where cupid fired an arrow and killed the Don. Amazing. I think there are some recordings of the Prague version. Must look on Spotify.
English

@rheingold74 I was in Prague in 2023 to meet a musicologist friend of mine.
We spent an evening at The Estates Theatre where Don Giovanni was premiered conducted by Mozart.
Mahler also conducted there.
We saw "The Marriage of Figaro".
English

My music day ends with Mozart and his overture to "Don Giovanni."
The opera was premiered at the Estates Theatre in Prague on October 29th 1787.
Enjoy ❤️
Goodnight, everyone.
Nos da.

@upvigilant @JaycelAdkins Mine had most of the papers stuck together at the edges like perforation. I had to use a ruler to separate pages. Never had anything like that before
English

@JaycelAdkins I meant to ask you about the Columbia Press Zhuangzhi tranlation. Am I right that you have both paperback and hardcover, and you mentioned the hardcover is not so resilient?
English

@encorebennett @Old_But_Gold50s Absolutely. So many amazing recordings with this trio. I quite like Bonynge's conducting when with them there is a certain thrust and quality. When you watch videos of him he looks like a man who took no sh*t an old school conductor.
English

@Old_But_Gold50s That Bonynge-Sutherland partnership was something special. And Pavarotti in his prime here. The phrasing, the breath control. A recording I return to often.

@JoshPhillipsPhD I am finding office rules are becoming more relaxed. Shocked to see colleagues wearing shirt, trousers and sketchers or trainers. They probably say that have bad feet and need them otherwise their mental health will suffer. Win😂
English

@ValaAfshar I did a job like this in the summer of my university. It's brutal. Those machines are relentless and you are on your own. Sneeze or have a brain blip and you are done for
English

@rmkinnunen A partner who can get you into a lounge is worth his weight in gold.. Safe travels. Jealous 😂
