@Mgwaith For instance it gives new access for lamb into all six gulf countries and cuts tariffs on lots of goods (97%)

@RhonddaBryant How is it good for Wales? In the abstract, as always? The time of surface level pronouncements has passed.

Rhun is showing them up. The ambitionless bozos of Labour have achieved nothing for so long that it rubs them up the wrong way when Rhun shows that you can just do things. Chris Brytnat, 'Minister for Trade' Ha ha. And Stevens. What is the point of Stevens again?

@WalkerMarcus We didn’t. We introduced new sanctions on Russia. You of all people shouldn’t lie

It's a shame just how many people (frustratingly on my 'side') are conflating international relations with foreign affairs. You can debate whether it *should* be the case, but this isn't some brand new development in contradiction to the devolution settlement.

First Minister for Wales @PrifWeinidog will hold responsibility for International Relations. He said: “This will be the most outward-looking government Wales has ever had."

This is utterly misleading. We haven’t relaxed an existing sanction on Russian oil products refined elsewhere. We’ve introduced a sanction for the first time. We’re strengthening sanctions not weakening them.
The Telegraph@Telegraph

Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine could receive a £1bn boost after Sir Keir Starmer watered down sanctions on Russian oil, experts have said. The Prime Minister has allowed some imports of diesel and jet fuel derived from Russian crude into the UK following a surge in prices because of the war in Iran. 🔗: telegraph.co.uk/politics/2026/…

@GogPhilthe Quite the reverse. I’d love plaid to deliver improvements in our public services in wales but I suspect they’ll spend all their time obsessing about independence

@RhonddaBryant Chris, if the UK was run similar to the EU, ; 3 Independent countries, each running their own affairs and controlling their own finances but working together as one, like the EU does, I think the UK would actually be stronger Union. England doesn’t have to control everything.

@dai_alectic I disagree. All MPs have a responsibility to understand international affairs. We vote on these issues all the time. I prefer better informed MPs.

@RhonddaBryant It is for mps who hold positions related to foreign policy yes. But from what I can tell when you went on your LFI funded trip to Israel in 2016 you had no formal duties related to foreign affairs? In other words it was very much not part of your actual role.

@Jordon3Jane @AnnaLouiseMR @non_jenkins Foreign affairs and trade are Westminster reserved responsibilities. In my nine months as trade minister, I have sorted two major Free Trade Agreements (Korea and Gulf), helped sell multiple UK planes, overseen reconstruction cooperation in Ukraine,

@wireinthebrain @RhonddaBryant @MelJStride @Conservatives You are pleased sanctions exist when they didn't before. Ref: 5.11 Ukraine is upset that the importing of oil from 3rd countries is not banned now and a ban will be phased in. Ref: Chapter 4IB There is no change to policy This is what Ukraine complained about.

This government’s easing of oil sanctions on Russia is supporting Putin’s ability to wage war on Ukraine. Disgraceful.

@dai_alectic I used to work with the HJS because they were early critics of Putin’s Russia. And I’ve always supported a two state solution in Israel (and criticised the Israeli government for many of its actions including over illegal settlements). Foreign affairs is a key Westminster issue

@RhonddaBryant Quite right Chris! Btw how does your work with the Henry Jackson Society or Labour Friends of Israel relate to your job as MP for the Rhondda?
