@matcow7 Not quite The more people who send their kids to state schools, the broader the base of support for properly funding state schools This is the crux of the issue It’s not just about short-term VAT revenues, it’s about resetting the social contract about investment in education

What Labour don’t seem to understand is that when putting VAT on school fees, the Government should want private schools to become *more* attractive, because the more kids that go to private school, the more revenue the Government raises and less has to be spent on state schools

…and if parents react to the VAT hike by taking their kids out of private schools, the money to pay for all these things for our state schools is lost.
