Most rap hits in the 90s wouldn’t even be hits if they released today while some underground shit today coulda done well commercially in the 90s.. niggas always totally disregard timing, era & the moments songs are released in

Unpopular opinion: Hip-hop still defines “classic” too heavily through an East Coast lens. Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt, 36 Chambers, and Rakim records are treated as the blueprint. But when you look at the South… OutKast, UGK, Cash Money, T.I., Lil Wayne, Nelly, Three 6 Mafia… You’re looking at the sound that actually pushed hip-hop into the mainstream global era. The question is: Are Southern classics evaluated differently, or just under-credited in the canon?

@faveskip @aruboyserafr its not?? when did people start calling wattba a classic? it was a huge disappointment when it first dropped and its still a lackluster release. her loss is by far the better album of these two.

Some of the best Rap albums I’ve ever heard didn’t go Platinum (million copies) so that’s not my measuring stick. You all can argue that nonsense. I know some great underground albums that didn’t go Gold & that didn’t matter to us back in the day. We cared about The MUSIC.
