@geekcubano @ajayidavid11 It compared the GPU score, no. Because I sure didn't see what other specs any of those systems were running. Was it an Intel or AMD CPU? Who knows.
So either we're taking about GPUs or the guy who started the whole thing was just ragebaiting without providing full context?
English

@richdev1ne @ajayidavid11 The original conversation derived from a Blender render score comparing mobile systems. You were the one that brought up a desktop GPU into the conversation.

Now show the proper desktop RTX 5090

🦊@jimmyjames_tech
Lol. M5 Max beats the 5090 in Blender 5.1.
English

@iPhoneXFucker @RouaniJihad @Trollkarlennn @AAPLTree @VadimYuryev Someone who gets the as yet not a real thing M5 Ultra?
Oh no that's right, the arguments only work when Apple has some kind of pedestal to stand on.
Just like you all didn't care about cheap laptops until Sir Tim of Cook said you should care 😂
English

holy shit the device that uses 10x the power is more powerful ??? 😱

Now show the proper desktop RTX 5090
English

@geekcubano @ajayidavid11 Right but the original thing this all came from is the GPU. Which is just one part of the Apple M chip. It doesn't work on its own either 😂
English

@ajayidavid11 @richdev1ne I mean if you want to take it there let’s start with the fact that the GPU is literally just one piece of the system and doesn’t work on its own while the M SoC can do things the GPU can’t.
English

@richdev1ne @geekcubano I’m an Apple fanboy myself. I only use Apple products, being realistic is and should be a thing.

Launching some pretty awesome stuff on @WindowsCentral in the short and longer term. Love it.
Bringing back as much of the old days as we can. Just need Microsoft to bring back Windows Phone now.
English

And when you really spec up a Pro level Mac with the same sort of memory (which you probably would, right) then you're not going to be a million miles away on price. Mac Pro starts at £7200 where I am right now on the old M2 Ultra. A Pro 6000 is currently about 9 grand. A 76 core GPU M2 Ultra Mac Pro with 128GB is also 9 grand 🤷♂️
English

@Trollkarlennn @richdev1ne @AAPLTree @VadimYuryev RTX PRO 6000 is the next step up over the RTX 5090 before you reach server grade GPUs
English

@geekcubano @ajayidavid11 I keep myself cold in the winter with my 5090, never have to turn on my central heating while I'm working. It's great.

It is important when it’s a portable device. Which is exactly what the MacBook is. Now, you could argue then that for desktops that metric isn’t such a big deal. See how that has worked out for NVIDIA and Intel: 14th gen Intel chips sucked so much power that they were almost impossible to cool, and even using an AiO they would throttle. For NVIDIA they had to come up with a whole new power connector to feed the GPU and even those had thermal problems and some literally burned. So, yeah, performance per-watt is important because if you don’t suck as much power: 1. the system is easier to cool and 2. Your power bill will be significantly lower (which, at scale, on a data center is VERY important).
English

@ajayidavid11 @geekcubano Very much that. But Apple fans will use whatever metrics they can to make themselves feel superior. Been happening forever. I've been covering tech for nearly 15 years and it's always been the way. And I worked on an Apple site in that time 😂
English

@geekcubano @richdev1ne Everybody makes it seem like performance per watt is an important metric, it’s not… you aren’t spending 6k+ on a system to worry about performance per watt.
English

@MG5thAve So? You and I both know the original tweet that went viral was misleading. Why else did he have to do a follow up clarifying that nobody saw?
English

@richdev1ne A desktop 5090 is $4k these days and costs more than the entire laptop itself. Not comparable.
English

@MarcTechStream I mean he did. He had to make another tweet clarifying.
English

@MarcTechStream It's right there on the image. 5090 laptop. Not hard 🤷♂️
English

@richdev1ne Tell NVIDIA to have a proper name for their laptop cards like 5090m and people will be less confused
English

@VadimYuryev @richdev1ne It would be nice if Apple can enable more than 80 GPU cores, but even the roadmap cadencing, 80 is probably top-end.

I appreciate that there's a continuing story. But without any actual PvE content to play through to progress the story, it just feels pointless.
We're doing nothing for it. Endgame could have been a perfect place for this. New missions, alas, we just get cinematics.

Specter Two reaches the Nexus Facility just in time, pulling David Mason out of The Guild’s grasp. Now the hunt turns into a trap. Watch the Season 02 Outro Cinematic, and prepare for the story to push north into the Arctic Circle in Season 03.
