@TherealNihal At the start of 2022/23 over 20,000 school places were offered to Ukrainian children in English state schools. Around 11,000 took up the places. The school system absorbed them easily enough.
Are there enough school places in state schools for parents who have just about enough money to privately educate their children and now will have to move their children into the state sector?
I am delighted to announce that I will be the new CEO for The White Horse Federation. It is an honour and privilege to be trusted to lead @WhiteHorseFed and a great set of colleagues. I am hugely grateful to @Cabotfederation and colleagues who have inspired me.
What a week! Highlights being the South West Trust Leaders Network on Wednesday discussing flexible working, professional developing and succession planning, and the, at the end of the week, being confirmed as Regional Director for the South West. I am delighted!
Got home from a busy week to find this up in the utility.
Regulation height, lecky tape by washing machine for the oche.
Not sure yet if it’s Ted Lasso inspired #becurious or Luke the Nuke #bebrave but some dodgy arrows thrown given the marks on the wall…
Just received this message-
‘Dear Richard, you were my headteacher many years ago. Wanted to connect as you inspired my teaching career’.
What a lovely way to end the term.
Connected, of course.
Merry Christmas from everyone at Tarka Learning Partnership.
Looking forward to boosting vocabulary with the English for Education Futures, North Devon Partnership this afternoon! Thankyou to Hannah Dodwell from @gtsdevon and the Tarka Trust for organising! @richlight70
See you in a bit! 🌠
Brilliant to catch up with Vicky Owen at The Park this afternoon. A great start to leading the school and improving outcomes for students in North Devon. Thank you for everything you are doing.
@dylanwiliam I’ve seen many teachers giving children lots of maths problems to solve in the belief that they will get better at problem solving. Do children taught how to solve problems alongside underlying theory, variation, missing steps & reversing problems do better?
In this New Yorker article Peter Kessler describes his twins' education in China and how they continued doing similar math problems by video back in the US: bit.ly/47QT2o9. Below is one example. My question is what do students actually learn in solving such problems?
