People saying it might take longer than expected to get our boy back and I’m like Yeah so? I don’t care if it takes weeks, months or longer. Sweetheart I’ve waited four years for a character to come back before. You really think I’m gonna let that stop me? FFXIV players might know about a certain character who was introduced in ARR who didn’t come back until several expansions later. And the odds of him coming back were nigh on zero as he was part of a side quest. I loved that boy through multiple expansions without once forgetting about him. I think I’m good, I’ll wait if I have to, but I’ll keep sharing my love for Valko for however long it takes and then some. No I will not forget him. 🚨 Regarding the global opinion on Chinese games 🚨 It's come to my attention that it is circulating through Chinese media that global players will no longer participate in or give money to Chinese games due to the situation with Valko. This is true, but the media is twisting the narrative on why. To understand how to fix this problem, the entire picture must be painted. I want to make it abundantly clear that global players are outraged at this moment, but it is in no way the fault of Valko. In some ways, it is not even related to Papergames/Infold. This is not to say that we don't have our grievances about some choices they've made, but they alone are not the reason we will refuse to play Chinese games if this situation is not rectified. Here are the true problems that are holding global players back from wanting to give Chinese games money moving forward: 1. Toxic fandom culture that goes unpunished in China. This situation with Valko began because of a few players who spread disgusting misinformation in an attempt for Valko to be cancelled. They simply did not find him attractive and did not want to share the attention of their chosen characters in the game, so they decided they wanted to cause major problems and uproot the entire fan base. There seems to be no true punishment for this behavior in China, despite the fact that it cost a company millions of dollars, ruined their reputation, and devastated an entire fanbase of millions of people. The emotional and financial toll is beyond measure. Not only did these people spread lies, but they also weaponized poop and brought a knife to the HQ. Why are these people going unpunished? Beyond this, the fandom in China shows severe signs of racism. Global players are expected to give money, but they are harassed and called disgusting names just for having an opinion in a game they've spent millions of dollars on. Our opinions are treated as worthless even though we are equals as players. We're constantly told we're disgusting outsiders and not welcome there. That we do not matter. This also goes unpunished. 2. False media. After the toxic fans caused false alarm, the Chinese media ran with this misinformation. As global players, we've seen how the narrative has been twisted. A clip of our main character (MC) laughing and playfully wrestling with Valko was sped up to make it appear as if he's overpowering her, and then clipped short before the scene zooms out to show her playing along with him. This disgusting twist of information is alarming and the fact that it's not being corrected makes global players feel unsafe participating in games that can be uprooted by such false information. Another example of false information is the article that claims Valko broke into her home through a window. The true media shows MC on the phone on her porch, he jumps up on the porch to join her, which we can only believe is because he's injured (in the video it is obvious that he has cuts on his hands) and came to see her and have her help him. At this point in the story, they are already dating and he's not an intruder. 3. The inherent risk: Due to the fact that false media and toxic citizens can cause such a disaster, it feels unsafe for global players to invest. Why would we, in good faith, invest time and money in a company that can suddenly be taken down due to a few toxic people and a smear campaign? We refuse to throw our money out the window for nothing, and we'd be stupid to continue to invest our money after this smear campaign. When something we adore can be ripped away in a moment, it is better to simply not get attached. It is safer to go to a global company than to invest in China, as at least we will be less susceptible to losing our investment and getting heartbroken over a smear campaign. We have spent millions of dollars on Love & Deepspace plus years of our time, and it has been ruined in the matter of a week over the pettiness of some teenagers and toxic women. I want to make it abundantly clear that the vast majority global players love Valko. The low ratings you see here, the unrest, and the boycott you see globally is because we want Valko back. We are disgusted by the fact that he was removed over such nonsense, and because of this, none of us feel safe to invest in Chinese games anymore. You have to remember that this character was anticipated for years - many of us have even been saving materials for his release since Caleb's release a year and a half ago. Valko was released and we absolutely adored him, he was truly the most wonderful character. Then, he was ripped away from us, after Infold promised they would not remove him. This is unprecedented in the gaming industry. Global servers are heartbroken. We feel betrayed to lose something so beloved over such petty drama and misinformation. We have watched a character we truly love and feel very strongly for be slandered in the most disgusting way. Global players have been boycotting with everything in us and shedding tears in mourning of the loss of Valko for 11 days. The emotional toll has been severe. And for those of us who have been the victims of assault, seeing the game we find safety and comfort in being accused of these things is both demeaning and disrespectful. These are the reasons we can no longer invest in Chinese games unless this situation is rectified and justice is given to Valko. It is simply not worth the risk or emotional turmoil. I beg of everyone in China to open themselves to the full picture, have mercy, and help us reinstate Valko. Please help fight the misinformation and bring our gentle wolf back. Please clear the name of Valko. We will not support Papergames or any other Chinese game again until he is reinstated.
