That sux. I scream a lot about Twitter but holy fck I’m not as filtered as that. Wow.
I was labeled as platform manipulator last summer, my tweets get avg 80 views. I do a Spaces once a week, so I get notification and interact because of that and an about 10 people interact with on a regular basis, but I’m no where near what you describe.
A few people I know chose the “Promote Tweet” button and got well over 100,000 views for $50. So if that is true, then the converse is true regarding filtering.

Some of you may know I did a documentary on the effects of AI steering social media to manipulate us. Well I got to know a singer who sums this up in her song Algorithm Ghetto. In 2018, Tesla $TSLA was worth just under $60 billion. They signed a 10-year CEO extension & compensation deal with @elonmusk , which offered him *zero base compensation*, but up to $55 billion in compensation if, and only if, he could more than *10x the company's value* to $650 billion, a feat no CEO has ever accomplished. By 2020, less than 3 years later, Tesla did indeed hit a $650 billion market cap, despite the skeptics who literally called it "laughably impossible" when the plan was publicized. Now, the Delaware courts are shooting down that compensation package, citing that the Board of Directors were not truly independent and that shareholders weren't aware of the Board's relationship with Musk. This is a joke, an insult to basic capitalist principles, and a mockery of the work that Elon put in to grow Tesla to this point. Below is a clip from 2018 highlighting how wildly ambitious these milestones were considered by the media at that time:

I was putting a lot of work into Twitter—growing to 12K followers, etc. Then it seemed like my reach was going down rather than up. So I just stopped using it so much and switched to Substack.

The mafia metaphor is entirely correct They both say, "Pay us money or we will harm you and take your stuff. In exchange, we offer 'protection.'"
You are not allowed to opt out of either arrangement. Voting is an illusion, because all you do is vote for people who impose a slightly different variant of the same arrangement.

But Mafia has some rules, there's some honour, some kind of straightness, in a way.

But unfortunately, I actively participate in funding them.
I have no choice: I pay incredibly high taxes, and the French government gives billions of euros to these media (without asking my consent, but I must be happy to live in a democracy).
