@Mathematizeme @heymrsbond I went once and a child ran across the parlor and buried her head in my stomach and sobbed. I had never met her before or seen her since. But she recognized me from school. I was not ready to play that role in my own grief and it still shakes me. It’s ok to mitigate. Necessary.

@heymrsbond I'm teary-eyed just reading your post because of my experiences going to students' funerals. You will never forget the deep pain and the wailing payents' cries. Please don't go.

@heymrsbond @raybirdhill It’s wise to take care—they will need you *after* in other grueling ways. My 1st I was shocked to realize the kids will look to you during the wake and funeral, too—some there alone, never having attended one before, or never for a peer. It’s a lot to “teach” them—too much.

Well at least it turned out to be Covid.

in all my years of being in school as a student & being a teacher I have never once witnessed anyone pledging allegiance to a flag. maybe some schools in the South? certainly not mainstream America. sounds like an old rerun of "Gunsmoke."

@GaryGulman My dad went on a training kick when he saw Rocky, including the raw egg morning slurp. My brother asked what it tasted like. Dad said “‘bout like you’d expect. Like the ass-end of a chicken.” Questions both put to rest and raised in a single sentence. 🤣
