@rigiddyrough

Emcee since 1990. Rap junkie since 1987. There are many rap albums better than Illmatic.

For me, ’94, ’95, ’96, and ’98 stand as the greatest years for hip-hop albums.

@iykeduru1 @Spanish_Ran But yet, they are from the golden era and renaissance period when rap was peaking. The albums you listed are watered down more mainstream and many lack the raw rap sound that made rap great. Many classic albums from 1993 if you know rap. '96 was known to be just OK.

@raulanthonybx @Spanish_Ran Ghost himself has said he thinks its not that great but I also knew when it dropped it wasnt touching the rawness of the previous wu solos. common knowledge.

@raulanthonybx @Spanish_Ran yeah, widely known that he compromised to make money, q-tip was very concerned about the direction nas took with "if i ruled the world" even. Nas stopped using the great sound and producers people loved him on to cross over. Illmatic was the real deal beat wise.

@Spanish_Ran that pic you posted has a lot of weak albums like foxy, kim, lost boyz and some disappointing ones like it was written, ironman, too short and even the tribe and redman that were not nearly as good as their previous work. '93 was way stacked beyond '96.

@Spanish_Ran No. The golden era ended in '94 for a reason. '89 to '93 was the renaissance period. It's known that there were less releases- rap was declining by '95. '94 better than '95 and '95 was better than '96 and '97 wasn't that good and many started going to the underground.

peope who think rappers necessarily need to sing to evolve the genre are disrespecting the power of rap and lack the creativity to imagine how a new artist can innovate the practice without singing every genre has singing, only hip-hop has rap, rap IS the innovation

@DregoDaGreat @hop_high 1) Slaughtahouse 2)Take a look around Easily. The rest are nice but not close to the production and vibe of first 2 releases and the ground breaking concept album/subject matter of slaughtahouse.

@Kil889 Psycho Les (Beatnuts) is still active but yeah The Beatnuts sadly. One of the best groups too. Other examples: Da King & I, Positive K, L.O.N.S. minus Busta, Shadz of Lingo, Yall so stupid, Lord have mercy, Rampage etc. I might be off on some- haven't investigated. haha

@TheQuestions15 Can i borrow a dollar is his best! Classic early 90's rawness. More up tempo beats that have change ups, actual DJ presence, before common got too serious and melancholy on slower more repetitive beats. He was more energized, fun and quirky.

@Kil889 I'd call it classic. Those raw, dark, dusty, hard ass beats. Creativity with the layers of samples etc. He created a sound and executed it well for that album, then i never heard RZA beats like that again. Everything after (except dirty and GZA) sounded cleaner, more accessible.

The one word which just happens to be the most important word that's missing from your tweet is the word "classic." Cause that's what the OG discussion was about...not if Tical was good, great, fresh, def or dope but was it a classic.
rigiddyroughnrugged@rigiddyrough

@Kil889 ah man. I'm gonna have to come in and say Tical is great. Some of Rza's hardest, dustiest beats and he was getting creative with it. Meth held it down. A dark and less accessible album and a bit experimental with the beats. Enter the wu, return to the 36 and Tical my top 3 Wu.
