The land route which was used by marco polo (12th century) was blocked by muslim conquest (1453) due to which europeans scrambled to find direct sea route to india (vasco dagama 1490s). Yes, the land route (and the sea route) was open till ~200 years after marco.

Vasco da gama found sea route to India via horn of africa, this was not the case previously. Ofc he didnt discover india. Thats BS.
