1/4 Duel use items, and why screening matters 🧵 These oversights cannot be ignored. Yesterday: UNDP shipments were suspended after engine oil was caught smuggled inside cooking oil bottles in one of their shipments.

@AubreyEl1 @cogatonline @Israel You think the engine oil in the bottle of canola was on its way to a hospital? Maybe if said hospital was being used as a Hamas base

Israel’s stated goal in southern Lebanon is a buffer zone south of the Litani River. If it were to hold that territory, the reality is it wouldn’t be displacing meaningful Lebanese state control, Hezbollah has dominated that area for decades. Legally it was Lebanon, but in practice the state has had little sovereignty there. And that raises a question: if it is fully Lebanese territory, then does the Lebanese state bear responsibility for the decades of attacks launched from it? You can’t simultaneously insist it’s fully sovereign Lebanese territory and deny any Lebanese responsibility for what’s been launched from it. Israel should not leave the area. The danger is too great. Security demands it. History proves it. A strong, sovereign, peaceful Lebanon is a concept whose actualization has not arrived.

@AiyaGune @DanielBordmanOG no it's not. it violates proportionality. it's one thing to blow up a bridge that is about to be crossed by a large military force. it's another to blow up a whole series of bridges, just because they might be crossed, or to aid in Israel's ethnic cleansing of the area.

If you think blowing up a bridge is a war crime you are the problem. The final scene in Saving Private Ryan is about blowing up a bridge. Denying your enemy the ability to move heavy equipment over a river is not against the Geneva convention or whatever.
Daniel Lambert@dlLambo

The IDF has now destroyed 7 bridges over the Litani river. Blatant war crimes to seize a massive chunk of Lebanon. And the world is talking about empty ambulances in high questionable circumstances... When will they be stopped - they're destroying the world.

1. This is a lie 2. Read the damn bill 3. The text beginning on page 12, line 22 makes abundantly clear that what you’re saying isn’t true 4. Why can’t Senate Democrats argue against this bill without lying?

Israel Derangement Syndrome involves its own self contained logic. If you’re not seeing massive destruction of residential buildings in Israel… the Israeli government must be hiding it. If you see that destruction… Israel must be “manufacturing consent” for a war crime. It’s not possible that Iran’s missiles didn’t cause massive damage until they did, or that a missile defense system with a high interception rate would sometimes fail. Oh no, those pesky Israelis/Jews/Zionists must be up to something media nefarious. A good faith explanation is simply ontologically impossible. And of course, X’s algorithm pushes this conspiratorial gobshite to the top of my feed because conspiracy theories about Israel are a multi billion dollar business.
KHAL@Hal9000_T1

All of a sudden Israeli censorship is lifted? This is called manufacturing consent for what happens next.

Didn’t Iran issue a warning to evacuate a few days ago? By your logic doesn’t that make it okay? You said that warning people in advance of firing missiles on their homes makes you the most moral army in the world. Well, Iran did the same thing. I guess they’re the moral army now, right? Also, what’s the combatant to noncombatant ratio? Wasn’t that one of your talking points? Or how about: “This is war and you shouldn’t complain after you start a war,” right?
Israel Foreign Ministry@IsraelMFA

The Iranian regime devastated Arad and Dimona by deliberately striking civilians with missiles. Over 100 people were injured, including children. A blatant war crime. Pure terrorism.

@susanabulhawa The "moral army" criteria always seems to shift depending on which way the missiles are flying. It’s funny how fast a "talking point" becomes a war crime when the notification comes from a different area code. The ratio only matters when you're the one holding the calculator.
