The volume of queries and submissions has certainly gone up, but that doesn't necessarily mean the quality has gone up. I see so many fantastic concepts with writing that is a bit underbaked still.

@sienna_delaine_ Mine's a little weirder than this. Feeling like you're constantly failing characters who don't exist in reality but you adore them anyway, because you struggle to get their story out there and you know they deserve it. But they're also not real.

Nobody tells you the loneliest part of being a writer. It's not the rejection. It's not the self-doubt. It's finishing a chapter at 2 AM… crying… shaking… and having no one to tell. Because no one in your life understands why a story that isn't even real… broke you. But it is real. To us, it's real.
