Thanks to everyone who voted! So it looks like the fork is bistable for about 65% of people. Anyone have any ideas what about the image makes it bistable?

I was making faces with my food (as one does) and noticed something odd ... are the fork tines pointing up or down?? As a vision scientist, I feel the need to collect some data on this ... 2 polls below, please tell me what you see!

Does your perception of which way the tines are pointing switch back and forth?

What do you see? Fork tines up (toward the sky) or down (toward the plate)?

My review of temporal attention is out in @NatRevPsych! It covers key conceptual issues, data, and models in the field of visual temporal attention, and I hope it will be useful to both experts and those new to the topic Web: go.nature.com/496FAfj PDF: rdcu.be/dBUpT

2. Temporal attention enhanced stimulus representations ~250 ms after stimulus onset, unexpectedly, in fronto-cingulate cortex. We speculate that sending target information here may protect it from interference in visual cortex by a subsequent stimulus biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

1. We found a periodic modulation of visual cortical activity before an attended time. This modulation (~2 Hz) anticipated predictable target times and shifted in phase depending on the precise timing of attention biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Two new preprints on the neural mechanisms of temporal attention! We used MEG to study how people selectively attend to items at specific time points within a sequence, when temporal predictability is controlled. With @JiatingZhu @kan_tian @carrasco_lab @djheeger 🧵

An exciting postdoc opportunity with Doby Rahnev! Doby just won the Vision Sciences Society young investigator award, and I know from our many collaborations that he is a fantastic person to work with

🚨Jobs alert🚨 My lab has openings for 1 postdoc and 1 lab manager to work on the computational and neural bases of perceptual decision making. Check the thread below for more details. Please RT. rahnevlab.gatech.edu/getinvolved.ht…

@gerpwr We're interested in understanding sensory perception in general, but we mostly work on vision

@rndenison @carrasco_lab @djheeger I would simply involve psychophysics to test how well items were paid attention (attentional efficiency:me n Jon 2011) or make it a task to test how well they were retained in memory (paul n masud 2008—or more recent approach). or eeg or fMRI scanned for target regional analysis
