It implies mainly an aesthetic regime, a specific music business model during that era and a specific link to the public / fanbase at that time.
2.5 gen was pretty much starting to evolve from the 2nd gen model

The groups from that gen are totally different from 3rd gen such as Twice / Seventeen or Blackpink. It’s too difficult and weird to mix them.
