The story behind “Layla” is one of the most intense and painful in Rock history. In 1970, Eric Clapton fell madly in love with Pattie Boyd, who at the time was the wife of his close friend George Harrison of The Beatles. Clapton and Harrison were very close, but Eric couldn’t control his feelings. Clapton formed the band Derek and the Dominos and recorded the album *Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs*. The song “Layla” was written primarily by him, inspired by an ancient Persian poem about an impossible love, but adapted to his own situation. The lyrics are literally Clapton begging Pattie to leave George: “Layla, you got me on my knees… I’m begging, darling please…” The famous opening guitar riff was played by Duane Allman, who was invited to the recording sessions. The emotional piano finale was composed by drummer Jim Gordon. The song was released in 1971 and became a classic. At first, Pattie rejected Clapton, who fell into a deep depression and heroin addiction. Finally, in 1974, Pattie left George, and in 1979 she married Eric Clapton. The marriage lasted until 1989. Years later, in 1992, Clapton recorded an acoustic version that won a Grammy and brought “Layla” back to the top of the charts.

I seriously need some help here. My neighbor just put up this massive metal fence right along our property line and I’m honestly pretty upset about it. It completely changed the whole feel of my driveway and now it looks like I’m pulling into some kind of industrial corridor. I had no idea this was even happening until the thing was already built. It feels like my space just got boxed in overnight. What on earth can I do in a situation like this???
