What a chance for Elanga on his debut. Clean through on goal but never looked fully convincing, and ball seemed to slow as he entered area. Shot saved. He should have done better.

For anyone thinking that a 16/18 team Premier League won’t happen, this is version 18 of Project Big Picture, an attempt by Glazers, FSG, Parry and the rest of the ‘Big Six’ alongside initially then FA chief Greg Clarke, before the latter got cold feet. The fact that the scheme made so much progress is indicative of how serious it was to the owners. Note that only 9 clubs needed to vote on key matters involving the game, and a 2/3 majority…ie six clubs effectively control football. Who would those six clubs be?

Newcastle's "the price is the price, pay it or do one" stance would have more weight if they hadn't bid well below Burnley's valuation for James Trafford, or Brentford's for Yoane Wissa.

Why are Liverpool the bad guys in this situation? Its been reported countless times isak has told Newcastle he wants away. Liverpool haven't tapped him up (as reported by several reliable sources). So wheres this narrative coming from?

Liverpool have thrown Isak under the bus. He's become public enemy number one in Newcastle. Liverpool went through the back door and tapped him up knowing he'd cost £140m+. Player goes on strike and is left to stew. It really does stink and the blame lies firmly with L'pool.

Well, it’s when stuff gets leaked, usually via agents, it’s perceived by some that it’s coming from the buying club to unsettle the player.

@rob_laws_85 Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't it all start coming to a head after we made our "informal" approach? I seem to recall that's when (I assume) Isak's camp started putting out briefings, and things got heavy after our rejected bid.

If players were forced to “honour that contract,” they (or at the very least the best of them) would insist on 2-3 year contracts when entering that key 22-24 year age range, leaving their clubs with minimal selling power and even less ability to strengthen via transfer spending.

This is why we had the brief from Isak’s side this morning.
The player will not want to be ‘the victim’ of Newcastle’s market failures. Also, with each passing day, now, his suspicion will (correctly) be that it suits NUFC to be failing in their endeavours to replace him.

@rob_laws_85 I mean, none of us know what was discussed behind scenes or what compromises were involved either during initial negotiations or last year. You're assuming Isak has been badly advised, but he could very well be steering this.
