@100MCanada The architects act in Ontario, which governs the profession, had it that one had to be a British subject in order to be licensed. This I believe was the case up to the 80s if not the 90s. I assume this is also true with the other 6 professions.

Canadian citizen = British subject until 1977. There has always been the idea among “upper class” that Canada should be an agrarian and natural resource colony of Britain. That has kept us small population-wise and economically. Maximum Canada, page 102

@LukeGromen @ektrit Everything is on Trump to reopen Hormuz. This is such a failure on an epic scale. The chances of Iran coming out of this in a better position grows by the day. Can't think of another example as bad as this in history.

@ektrit I think Russia and China are just fine with Hormuz staying closed They can see where this is heading and are willing to take the pain near term for it

@mikeskoukla @althiaraj PP is a loser. A double time loser at that. The reason he's going to stay and fight is because he has nothing to turn to. He only knows how to live off the public purse.

The Carney Liberals did not win a majority government through a general election or today's by-elections. Instead, it was won through backroom deals with politicians who betrayed the people who voted for them. While the Prime Minister spent the year on this cynical power grab, he has doubled the deficit, and given Canada the worst grocery prices and housing costs in the G7. Liberals expect Canadians to give up, get complacent and go away, so Carney can have total power without any accountability. That will not happen. Our country and its people are worth fighting for. We will continue to fight for people to afford homes, food and fuel. We will continue to fight for safety in our streets. We will continue to fight for our resource workers and soldiers. I will continue to lead that fight every day and in every way in Parliament, across the country and in the next election, when Canadians will reclaim the country we know and love.

Despite what the rigged polls may say, in reality on the ground, Poilievre and the CPC are so "invincible," that their own voters don’t even bother showing up, and Poilievre was busy on his podcast tour, podcasts watched by trillions of Canadians. Joking aside did Poilevre even set foot in those ridings to make the case? If he didn't, why not?

Conservative voters are just not showing up tonight They're getting half of what they got in Scarborough and University that they got in 2025 CPC vote in Terrebonne is down 80-85% compared to what they got last April

Guys, we went from 20+ pts up in the polls to Liberal majority in just over a year. We can talk about the biggest vote share since Mulroney and the gains in BC and Southern Ontario, but we’ve lost in the most ultimate way. This isn’t horseshoes or hand grenades. We need to seriously consider new leadership if Poilievre and the current OLO can’t improve our position relative to the Liberals very soon. There is no virtue in losing again and I don’t think we’re on a winning path.

When the Conservatives were up by 20 points in the summer of 2024, @PierrePoilievre’s net favourability was generally in positive territory, hovering between 1 and 7. Since the election, not only are the Conservatives polling poorly, Poilievre's popularity has been in a steady nosedive. He’s now polling about as well as socialist Avi Lewis.

Lots of weird takes on the Hungarian election result from both left and right here. Peter Magyar is a socially conservative immigration restrictionist who wants to cut taxes and double the defence budget. He criticized Orban for admitting too many guest workers, and wants to increase Hungary's already generous pro-natal incentives. On virtually every issue, his platform is well to the right of centre, by European standards. His foreign policy is to end Orban's alliance with Putin, remove the Hungarian veto on EU loans to Ukraine, normalize relations with the European Union while opposing more Euro integration, and strengthen relations with Eastern Europe's anti-Russian governments, e.g. Poland. His election was not a sudden shift to the left, but a rejection of Orban's corruption, the failure of his interventionist / statist economic policies, and the humiliation of his relationship with Putin.

@OlenaRohoza Forget joining the EU. They are all a mess. All the countries are being overrun by Muslim immigration. They are the widest countries. All being under the WEF. Canada doesn’t need this. Canadians smarten up. Carney even said he’s more EU than Cdn. No EU. B. Lann

🇨🇦 Canada and the EU: an unexpected twist According to a survey conducted by Nanos Research for The Globe and Mail, a majority of Canadians do not rule out the possibility of the country joining the European Union. 📊 Key figures: 57% of respondents would either fully support (28%) or somewhat support (29%) Canada joining the European Union as a full member. The results also show that 32% were opposed or somewhat opposed to the idea, while 12% were undecided. The survey also found that 84% of respondents believe strengthening economic ties is the best path forward in relations between Canada and the EU. Support is especially high among younger people and residents of major cities where the survey was conducted: Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver, and Calgary. At the same time, many respondents admit they don’t know enough about the EU to make a final judgment. Is this technically possible? In theory, yes — since Canada and Denmark (via Greenland) share a land border. Canada and the EU are already linked by CETA. Why is this topic being discussed now? Growing trade tensions with the United States are pushing Canada to consider diversifying its alliances. ❓ What do you think — could Canada ever become part of the EU?
