15 jaar gepraat. En nu moet het anders. Tja.

More than 500,000 balsa trees are being illegally logged every year, specifically for the wind turbine industry (as of March 2026). A major environmental investigation recently tracked balsa from the Munduruku Indigenous Territory - the largest in the Brazilian Amazon - all the way to the supply chains of global turbine manufacturers. Criminal networks obtain transport guides for legal plantations - then use them to move wild balsa from protected forests. It's essentially 'blood balsa' sold with a green certificate. A single set of three blades for a large turbine can consume up to 40 mature trees. That’s a small grove of the biological heartwood gone for every single wind turbine.
