My book tells the story of the extraordinary relationship between Brian Walden and Margaret Thatcher. Next year a new @Channel4 drama based on my book will land, starring Harriet Walter & Steve Coogan, script by @mrJamesGraham, directed by Stephen Frears. deadline.com/2024/06/channe…

Arne Slot’s future inevitably the subject of intense debate. Season simply not good enough. Mitigating factors but still...it’s been undeniably poor in results and performances. Champions look weaker mentally and tactically, a painful watch at times. Issues all along the back although Mamardashvili and Kerkez settling in promisingly, plus Leoni and Jacquet to come. Midfield less than the sum of last season’s dominant parts, and not helped by the club’s best player, Szoboszlai, being moved around. Attack beset by tragedy (which puts everything into perspective), by injuries and Salah’s sad decline. Ngumoha a spark of hope for the future but he’s still so young, still learning. Signs of hope with greater intensity in second half against PSG but still levels below the European champions individually and collectively. That’s partly coaching - Luis Enrique is better than Slot - but also recruitment. Does Slot, the outgoing Manager of the Year, deserve more time? Fans understandably frustrated/angered, their mood darkened further by board's unthinking, alienating stance on ticketing. Liverpool should finish season re-boarding the UCL gravy train, a priority for owners. Any decision can be made only after that, in the summer, after measured reflection and only after due consideration of any available upgrades. Managerial churn is not the Liverpool way. But nor is a season as unacceptable as this. Fifth is not a trophy for a club as great as Liverpool. #LFC

All most every sentence of this is a lie. And if the Strait of Hormuz does open it will be on Iranian terms, something Iran did not enjoy before Trump’s War. So thanks a lot for the Tehran Toll Booth.
Karoline Leavitt@PressSec

This is a victory for the United States that President Trump and our incredible military made happen. From the very beginning of Operation Epic Fury, President Trump estimated this would be a 4-6 week operation. Thanks to the unbelievable capabilities of our warriors, we have achieved and exceeded our core military objectives in 38 days. More on that tomorrow morning from @SecWar and Chairman Caine! The success of our military created maximum leverage, allowing President Trump and the team to engage in tough negotiations that have now created an opening for a diplomatic solution and long-term peace. Additionally, President Trump got the Strait of Hormuz reopened. Never underestimate President Trump’s ability to successfully advance America’s interests and broker peace.

The US/Israeli attack on Iran and the widening hostilities in the region are exposing the growing scandal that is Britain’s military capabilities, or lack thereof. We are still in the world’s top 5/6 on defence spending yet: We don’t have a single warship in the whole of the Mediterranean, despite the eastern Mediterranean becoming part of the theatre of war. We don’t have a single warship in the Gulf. We have a naval base in Bahrain. But a base with no ships. We don’t have any subs to deploy. The one active Astute Class sub is in Oz. We have a handful of fighter jets in Cyprus. And a smaller handful in Qatar (attached to Qatari airforce). That’s it. Most of what’s left of the Navy — not even in the top 30 in the world in terms of warships these days — seems to be in repair/maintenance/renovation. Brilliant MoD planning. Labour/Tories/LibDems who all had a shot at government these past 16 years need to be held to account. When Ed Davey says Brit expats in the Gulf should pay for UK protection, exactly what protection does he have in mind that would be worth paying for?

I tried skiing once. Never again. So I don’t really go in for ski content but I love this;
Ski Life@powderski

I had a crazy client today: My head was splitting this morning. Too many spicy margs at the Moose. My client is "Brad." Private equity, NYC. He shows up late, yelling at his assistant on the phone, and snaps his fingers at me to carry his skis. He’s wearing a heated vest and brand new Kastles, but is already complaining about the grooming report before we even made it out!!! First thing he says to me: "I didn't hire you for pizza-french-fry bullshit. I ski Chamonix and Aspen. I’m paying for line cutting and steep terrain. Do not mollycoddle me or I’m getting you fired." He then proceeded to make a really gross comment about the teenage girl working the lift ticket scanner. Just a total piece of shit. We pack into the Tram. Big Red is crowded. Brad is literally shoving locals with his elbows to get a window spot. He turns to me and says, loud enough for the whole car to hear, "So, do you have a real job in the summer or do you just mooch off unemployment?" We get to the top of Rendezvous. Visibility is garbage. "Alright Brad," I say. "You said you want the steeps? You said don't baby you?" "Give me the scariest thing on this hill," I lead him straight to the edge of Corbet’s Couloir. "This is the entrance," I yell over the wind. "Since you ski Chamonix, this should be a warm-up." He looks over the cornice. It’s a 20-foot freefall into a 40-degree chute (particularly icy today). "Where's the ramp?" he asks. "Ramp's for tourists, Brad. You said no mollycoddling." I don't wait. I hop turn, send the drop, stick the landing in the soft stuff, and rip giant GS turns all the way down to the Tensleep traverse. I stop and look up. Through the fog, I see a red speck frozen at the lip. He’s side-stepping back up the ridge and blocking the drop-in for three Teton Gravity Research guys who are filming. They are screaming at him. I skied straight to the Village Cafe. I’m currently on my third slice of pizza and drinking a pitcher of PB while writing this. Hope you've having a powder day - JH is great at the moment, despite some rude clients! Corbet's Couloir pic attached
