Extraordinary that you can now become prime minister in this country without ever having or expressing a single policy idea.

This hardline protectionist ‘Buy British’ approach to public procurement is only possible because of Brexit. How do you square it with the desire, oft proclaimed by Keir Starmer and now Andy Burnham, that we need to align much more closely with EU rules? Also — don’t we have a number of agreements with other countries, in and out of the EU, for fair dealing when it comes to procurement? Won’t we be in breach of them?
John Healey@JohnHealey_MP

You will see this as a determined drive that you have not seen before from a British government. Buying British not “if possible”, but by design. So every procurement pound supports British jobs, British apprenticeships and British skills. thesun.co.uk/news/39871373/…

Ahhh. Now I get it. Like the French, we should cheat!! Fair enough. But we should be fully aware that in some cases it will mean more expensive procurement of less good equipment. Natural consequences of less competition. Are you up for that? For our armed forces, who surely deserve the best?
Toby Perkins MP@tobyperkinsmp

@afneil No I'm not saying that, I am saying that the way other nations have designed tenders have led to far more in-country buying than way Britain's strict 'value for money' approach has operated.

The BBC has traded integrity/robust interrogation for access, behind-the-scenes, largely irrelevant storytelling. This should have been a live 30 minute interview with no fripperies, no cosy build up.
Roger Mosey@rogermosey

I don’t like the way the Burnham-Kuenssberg interview is being played out with the release of clips. The first broadcast with a new PM should be a big moment: on the main BBC channels in full as soon as possible. Not a 4-day-old recording in which we already know the newslines.

@yuanyi_z You can't go back, only make the future better than it would otherwise have been. Britain is long past its best, never to return.
