Love it. Better than the current system. Curbs the worst tanking, which is all that matters. You don't want a team going out for months losing on purpose. That's not good for anyone. I don't think Silver gets much right, but this is a good proposed move.

@avidsportsrdr @DParkOK if they can supposedly catch teams doing this, why not just do draft ordered by record and punish teams who 'manipulate' by the league standards? Why create rules that punish actual bad teams for no reason

There’s tons of people operating under the assumption players were sat ONLY to help draft odds.
Why would you play Pascal Siakam 82 games in a lost season? You’re not strong-arming anyone into making that decision.

Another byproduct of the tanking rules will be post All-Star break there will be a cluster of teams who know they cant make the playoffs, but also know they wont fall into the relegation zone. At that point it also doesn’t make any sense for them to play their better players in the second half of the season and it’s better to put their young guys in for reps. At that point the product will suffer too. Only this time it won’t be the worst three-four teams in each conference that number will be higher.

@avidsportsrdr @DParkOK and now the worst team, who ALREADY rarely gets the 1st pick, has even worse odds because 'tanking'? Think about how silly of a solution this is. It makes the problem so much worse. There's now literally 0 incentive to be a 7-8 or play-in team.

It's the boogeyman and sports media has mind melted you into thinking that bad teams sit around and conspire to lose games at a huge clip. It makes no sense, and there's no objective evidence outside of anecdotes to support it
