@KipHenley Agreed! We went Tuesday after a long absence and it was like we were kids again. The old days - you could walk up and get a practice round "sticker" for $15. Word got around and it became untenable - they had to start the lottery.

Remember that amazing feeling when you were 8 years old and walking into the room where Santa had left your presents ? A true Golf Nut walking into Augusta National for the first time is as close to that feeling an adult can ever get !

@MMcEwanGolf They are going to have to look at it for the upcoming years. We got there Tuesday at 8:40 and the line was 90+ minutes. Ridiculous. We said screw it and walked to Amen Corner!

I've been saying for a couple of years that the lust for Masters merch was threatening to become a problem. If people would rather queue for a gnome than watch Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Watson hit golf balls IRL, I fear we may have crossed that threshold.

@KVanValkenburg I was a young copy editor at the AJC and got to sit with Furman in his office as he went through his yearly pairing sheets, he kept them all, and had a story for all of them. He was helpful to a kid who was interested in golf, and part of a great generation of sports writers.

The evolution from the mid-80's when chairman Hord Hardin sent Ken Green letters of reprimand for having his son caddie in the Par 3 contest and to both Ken and Calc for skipping balls over the water at 16 in a practice round, to what we see today at 16 and the Par 3 contest is unbelievable.

@BrendanPorath Brendan, we got there at 8:45 Tuesday and couldn’t believe the parking lot was already packed. Then, you walk in the gate and see a 90+ min wait at the shop. Everyone with a gnome. My friends and I said immediately, let’s walk to Amen corner. Can’t wait to see it.

@Top100Rick I was thinking the same thing as I’m watching it. They are pushing the storylines too much and it’s just too influencer driven.

Has the Masters Par 3 has become too silly? Catering to the Idiocracy? Chairman Fred Ridley has already said he regrets letting Dude Perfect film a video there a couple years ago. Now today has become a lowest common denominator geared event.
