@_MiguelHernan I find it very interesting that Joaquín Villalba was affiliated to the Medical School and the Veterinary School...

Fun facts about #epidemiology:
1/
In modern times, the first mention of "Epidemiology" happened in #Madrid in 1803.
By physician Joaquín Villalba in his book "Epidemiología Española":
books.google.es/books?id=EvsBb…
"Epidemiología" was then translated into English as "Epidemiology".

@Wjrgo @lisalendway Actually, that is analytical specificity (there is also analytical sensitivity), which is different from diagnostic specificity. The former deals with the capacity of a test to discriminate between analytes, the latter is proportion of true negative individuals classified as such
English

@lisalendway The other day I heard a virus expert say on tv that specificity of a covid test is about its ability to distinguish covid from the flu. Since then the term makes sense to me.

@taylorev_ @AcademicChatter A good dose of sleep, you need to be focused and alert. You will be awesome!

It’s the day before your qualify exam. What do you do?

@Dagmar__Gross @katewbauer @ProfMattFox This resonates a lot with me... They both seemed to me like the two sides of a coin, but this explanation is cristal clear. Thanks
English

@katewbauer @ProfMattFox Use positive language for each. Inclusion are the broader strokes, the "must haves" eg adult age, require surgery. If the subject must *not have* something, that's exclusion. Eg could say for inclusion "must not be pregnant". Easier to say exclusion: pregnancy. Clear?

@jenspdx @thewbert You are welcome. I really like that book. In R, I would recommend spatstat package... the help document is quite thorough. cran.r-project.org/web/packages/s…
English

@VivianHLyons @JerzyEisenGuyot You are right, you would have to write it from scratch. I worked on g-formula for a course on methods for causal inference, but I used R and wrote the programs myself (not in the most efficient way though hehe). I am checking the SAS macro and it is quite impressive.
English

@robertvaleris @JerzyEisenGuyot I was hoping to use a developed package for the g-formula, and didn't know of one for stata.
English

Hey #epitwitter! I'm trying to use the G-formula SAS Macro from Harvard's causal inference group and am running into some coding trouble. Does anyone have experience with this software and the time/patience to help?

@VivianHLyons @JerzyEisenGuyot Vivian, if you don’t mind my asking: why switch to SAS (or R) and not use STATA????
English

@JerzyEisenGuyot I'd love to chat! Thank you!! Happy to switch to R, I just got started (and stuck) in SAS and felt the need to just muscle through
English

@EGranger90 @jamiecsergeant Congrats on your paper, specially your writing style
English

Here's a #tweetorial of my first paper😁
This is work I did with @jamiecsergeant and Mark Lunt, comparing different approaches to combining multiple imputation and propensity scores. Hopefully relevant for some of you on #EpiTwitter and #StatsTwitter

@bertaocana @Barb_Vera @Rakvazdob @estefaniacsor @ManoliFM @manueljesusF Me alegra que sea de utilidad. Saludos
