It’s not something I’m perfect at yet but I’ve learned it’s so critical when evaluating what player feedback is worth discarding, vs sinking only two dev hours into addressing, vs sinking a week into addressing.

When developing indie games, it’s nearly impossible to overstate how much you need to optimize your signal-to-noise ratio. It might be more important than raw technical ability.
Oh, and your emotional attachment to a game is usually just 100% noise

Ran down a rabbit hole in Godot where I wanted the player to be able to preview their dwarf character model without adding an overengineered third-person "skin preview" camera. Now there's an overengineered mirror to check yourself out in!

People have been saying this since the dawn of time. Over a decade ago: “I can’t compete on YouTube; there is just so much low-effort reaction slop!”
And yet, YouTube continues to mint creative & ambitious millionaires every year. We need to resist making excuses for ourselves.

I feel this. Every opportunity crowded with AI slop apps. Every channel saturated with AI slop marketing. You can't make slop to compete with slop. I think the way to win is to be as human as possible. Think about building long term. Be opinionated about code. Take a bit of extra time over the UI. Build something you're really proud of. Market your app without AI; write your newsletters yourself, make video diaries, interview real life customers, etc. I could be wrong, but at least I won't be part of the slop-race.

Jensen Huang explained how blocking China from Nvidia does not anymore means blocking China from AI. If you don’t give your competitor the best chips, they will lag behind. This is how export control stories go. China is not waiting at the door of American computer systems anymore. Huawei’s rise is an example of a ban becoming an economic boost. It creates a market and teaches domestic suppliers how to get stronger, grow and export. Now the real battle is over who controls the chips, the talent, the energy, the infrastructure, the models, the apps and the whole intelligence stack. Thinking of chip policy as a valve that can be opened and closed is wrong. Each barrier slows down one flow while speeding up another. My theory is the more "physical markers" you give to a player in a horror game like Claims & Caverns, the more the player feels connected to their avatar... and the more scared they'll be when something happens to it--especially in first person.
In this case, you get legs!🙂
