Ireland is swamped with anti-Jewish racism. Over 75% of adults either don’t know about the Holocaust, or deny it happened. There are only about 2,500 Jews in Ireland and they are under siege. Sorry it hurts your feelings to point out the racism your country perpetrates.

It's a stupid system that takes days to count, rewards parochialism, not even an Irish system (the British came up with it), and the worst form of PR. As late as twenty years ago, Ireland was effectively a two-party system.

Well this is interesting electoral math - adding up the first preference % of FF/FG and dividing by 2- shows absolutely nothing and can be done for any party. Avg of SF vote is 12% by same logic which again is nonsense on nat level. Gov winning a by election is more significant

Dublin Central and Galway West are reasonably representative of the demographics of the state. The combined Fianna Fáil/Fine Gael vote across the two by-elections was 22%. Kyne's win can't hide the rapid decline.

Ok - lets assume we had FPTP & assume tactical voting (e.g 1 Gov candidate and bloc voting: Right bloc: 12,064, Left/VLTL bloc: 13,220, Government: 13,839. The maths ain't mathing for some Right wing FPTP revolution.

An Irish election is when a right-wing candidate wins the most votes in a constituency and loses anyway because they didn't get enough "third or fourth preferences" i.e loser votes as if that should matter for who takes one single seat.

And the idea FPTP is more democratic is ludicrous. NT is likely to win a seat in GE - in which case he will be a beneficiary of our electoral system and none of his supporters will call the defeated candidates victims. Seems to Shinners and Far right who moan most about PR.

Obviously it wouldn't work out as above due to personal/local vote etc. Idea Noel Thomas was beaten by the electoral system & would have easily won a FPTP election is ridiculous. The right wing vote wasn't there if there was tactical voting. PR better represents what voters want.

Fuel protests were never going to have any impact on Dublin Central & neither FG or FF were ever going to be competitive. But if the pro-fuel protest parties were not able to win Galway West - a mostly rural constituency - assumptions it heralded a new politics are wide of mark.
