@vitaaeris misogynists need to be dealt with, as do biphobes, but that fact doesn't change that the wording of that tweet carries bad implications. people are fequently just as misogynistic with headcanons of attraction to women—het shippers are also notorious for this.

i agree there is biphobia in fandoms but framing being gay and headcanons of characters being gay as misogyny is fucking weird

@vitaaeris personal anecdotes of what you have seen don't really add meaning to what someone else has said. my issue is with the wording of that tweet and even within the context of their thread, it's weird to link misogyny to attraction. even with headcanons.

@robnancer I say this because I’ve seen multiple cases of ‘gay’ headcanons being pushed so much it became a consensus within those fandoms that those men are “misogynistic and would never be with women” quickly followed by absolute endless vitriol for said female characters

@vtoshkatur the mainstream fanbase likes billy more and hates eddie, it's the actual nerd fandom that likes eddie more and even then there are more hate trains for eddie on a near weekly basis

violent racism is more socially acceptable than being cringe, which is why the characters have the roles they do in the show. the mind boggling part is that people who follow those values like this show at all

@amaremontree in that sense yeah but also from s1 pre billy it was very clearly a pro-outcast loser nerd show so people who find eddie cringe don't really make sense as the fanbase from that angle alone

@robnancer I think it's because the show itself does very little commentary on those issues (racism, ableism, misogyny, homophobia), which in return create such fanbase, B*lly didn't die because he's a raging racist sexist abuser, he died so this characteristics would be somewhat forgiven
