Let's admit it-- no one taught us how to spend money. For most of us: our parents came from humble backgrounds. Seeing them save money constantly, rubbed on us. And, it shaped our world view.Many of us carried those lessons into our adulthood. And, became lifelong savers. I am a case study: I honestly, can spend a lot of money now. But, I think thrice before buying a 250Rs Greek Yogurt. (Of course I buy it now, but that change took time) I was coached to "save" So I became a "saver". But, there was another breed of humans, who grew alongside with us. Let's call them "spenders" They got influenced far more than us with fast cars, flashy phones and big houses. Instagram played its role in fanning those desires. It changed the core of who they were. I'm not judging. As there is no right answer to "how much should you spend" Saying things like: "oh, spend within your limits", begets the question: what is the "limit"? You can't carry your wealth in your afterlife. So the American way of borrowing & dying kind of appeals to me. It looks logical. But, it also brings the stress of carrying the burden of debt: when you are alive and kicking. So the answer to spending is not really: how much you should spend? The answer really is: how much stress do you wish to take when you are alive? The cost of spending is the loss of freedom. Seems poetic. Because it is.
