I’m 24, and a lot of my friends think it’s too late to buy Bitcoin.
They see $100k+ and think they’re priced out, instead of realizing how small Bitcoin’s market cap still is compared to the global market for store-of-value assets.
The irony is that time is Gen-Z's biggest advantage. Yet, instead of letting small, steady purchases compound into something life-changing, many hunt for lottery tickets in sh**coins and Polymarket.
And I've been there too, before I studied the concept of absolute scarcity in a world where anything can be printed.
They say Bitcoin is everything you don’t understand about money combined with everything you don’t understand about computers. Which is true and why it takes time to grasp.
But the rabbit hole is 100% worth it. Your future self will thank you.
If you’re new, start with the question: “wtf happened in 1971.”

Perfectly describes academic research on bitcoin.
Bitcoin can’t scale? Publish it in a top finance journal, despite several fundamental errors, avoidable by a google search.
Bitcoin is pumped artificially by Tether! Publish it, too, and get headlines plastered everywhere.
Bitcoin is run by anti-semite radicals. Wow, what a great book. Let’s make it one of the most highly cited pieces of research on bitcoin ever.
Bitcoin is evil, libertarian derp, fertilizer for sowing societal distrust! So true, let’s get these ideas into the NYT.
Bitcoin is going to boil the oceans! Wow, let’s cite this in government reports and all over the media.
Academia is filled with people who have a pessimistic and ideological skew about bitcoin. The people who would have been working on it more responsibly have been culled or directed to other topics for fear of social reprisal and loss of opportunities.
The pernicious result of all this? With so few working on bitcoin, those who might have been friendly see bitcoin as a niche topic. “Eh, he works on bitcoin, very narrow and no one really cares about it.”
In reality, Bitcoin is highly interdisciplinary and it sits at the policy and technological frontier, much like AI.
If you care about hyperinflation, authoritarianism, debanking, free speech, censorship, or financial inclusion, and lots of other longstanding academic debates in economics, philosophy, and politics, you should care about Bitcoin. Hundreds of millions really care about bitcoin. Students want to know more about it - badly. Politicians have to know about it.
The mismatch between the uptake in academia and DC is enormous.

@an_average_bear in academia it's just as bad or honestly even worse. a lot of ethics of tech academics seem to have an attitude of "ew we don't handle the produce"

time will tell if we can ever see euphoria during a big BTC melt up, but i think retail mania is what drives that part of the cycle. retail isn’t interested in BTC, they want shiny altcoins to pump. if the 4 year cycle holds, people need to consider that there might not be a real alt season.
