BS ! No, the claim is misleading. The IMF’s 2022 figure of ~$7 trillion (7.1% of global GDP) in “fossil fuel subsidies” is real, but: •Only ~18% (~$1.3 trillion) were explicit subsidies (actual government spending, price caps, or undercharging for supply costs — often benefiting consumers, not companies). •~82% were implicit — mostly the unpriced costs of air pollution and climate damages from burning fuels (not cash to “Big Oil”). It’s not “$7 trillion to Big Oil companies.” It covers all fossil fuels (heavy on coal in places like China/India), counts societal externalities as “subsidies,” and isn’t direct corporate welfare. Traditional explicit subsidies (tracked by IEA/OECD) are far lower — hundreds of billions, not trillions. The “$850 per person” and “7% of GDP” math checks out for the broad total, but the framing (“Big Oil… most subsidized… always has been”) exaggerates by treating pollution costs as handouts to oil firms. The IMF itself pushes for better pricing to cut emissions and raise revenue, not to claim massive corporate giveaways.

The biggest lie in energy policy: “Fossil fuels are heavily subsidized.” Reality👇 Solar: $68/MWh Wind: $19/MWh Everything else: ~$1–2/MWh If wind and solar were actually cheaper… They wouldn’t need 10–50x more subsidies to survive. Because without subsidies… Renewables don’t compete.

The U.S. pays over $980 billion of NATO’s $1.59 trillion defense budget, that’s more than 60%. Not equal, not balanced, not even close. Call it what it is, America is footing the bill. 🇺🇸🔥

@7Kiwi I’d rather invest in SMRs, and batteries to stabilise the existing grid. Or using any excess energy to mine crypto or create green hydrogen for heavy industry.

But it would create surplus electricity with no value on sunny summer days that will destabilise the grid and nothing at all on cold winter evenings when demand is highest.
Give A Shit About Nature@giveashitnature

There are pretty much countless large parking lots for cars, and installing solar panels over them would generate half the electricity we use. Not only would this be an efficient use of land, but it would also help keep the cars cooler while parked.

Brilhante JD Vance!

Para quem tem pouco petróleo e gás, drill baby drill is not our business.

Peter Magyar, during his international press conference, confirmed that Szijjarto, Orbán's foreign minister, has barricaded himself with some of his closest colleagues and is destroying and shredding evidence about his treason (documents about the sanctions against russians).
