People who seriously think Paul Henry will he an excellent MP because of the Sheila Dipshit joke when he was on Breakfast TV. Come on people you are the dipshits. Is that what our tax is going to pay for. It's bad enough now with the caliber in Parliament.

@LuxonNotMyGovt "covered up", you mean obeyed a name suppression order while it was in place? Don't get me wrong, Jago should be incarcerated on White Island, but Seymour was obeying a judge's orders around name suppression.

No coincidence on the same day Tim Jago former ACT Party President convicted pedophile David Seymour covered up charges last election admits to new charge. Douce bag Seymour hastily announces odious shockjock Paul Henry candidacy as a ploy to distract from filth Jago.

@sootytweet There are good trade deals and bad trade deals. One that enshrines UNDRIP and the Paris accord is bad. One that might* force us to invest billions we don't have into India in a short time period is bad. And that is without the immigration debate. *depends who intreprets that.

@MarkHubbard33 Solzhenitsyn found, when commenting about his treatment in the Russian Gulags, that students and academics in the West refused to believe his testimony and were openly dismissive of it. Other Gulag survivors reported the same bizarre behaviour from so-called academics.

Lexus says its upcoming all-electric LFA supercar will use vibrations and other sensory feedback to mimic the feel of a combustion engine. "We’re not just wanting to replicate the sound of the engine: we want to redesign the sound itself so the car feels more alive and authentically connected." The production version of the car is expected to be unveiled at the end of this year/early next year. Concept unveiled in Dec 2025:

Activist: "Farmers are millionaires sitting on land worth a fortune. They can afford the inheritance tax." Farmer: "How much did I earn last year?" Activist: "I don't know. A lot, surely." Farmer: "Twenty-two thousand. Before the tractor broke." Activist: "But the land's worth millions." Farmer: "On paper. I can't eat the field or spend it. The only way to turn it into money is to sell it, and then I'm not a farmer, I'm a bloke who used to have a farm." Activist: "So sell a corner of it." Farmer: "A corner doesn't work as a farm. You can't run a suckler herd on the bit that's left after the taxman's had his slice. You sell one field, then the next bill comes, then another field. It ends one way." Activist: "The land only costs that much because you won't sell it." Farmer: "It costs that much because a hedge fund three counties over wants it for carbon credits and a footballer wants it for the view. Neither of them has ever calved a cow at three in the morning. They set the price. I get the bill." Activist: "It's still an asset." Farmer: "It's a workplace that happens to be expensive. You've decided the value of the shop is the same as the wage of the shopkeeper. Come back in February and watch me not be a millionaire in the rain."

@Wired__One I think it's asinine for someone to live here for 40+ years and not get their citizenship. (I immigrated from SA nearly 20 years ago and have had my citizenship for 12 years now)

@TheNzRocketeer Yes, because part of immigrating here was investing the time and effort to get that piece of paper that makes you a citizen.

What of the person born here, who never takes an oath of allegiance as you do in a citizenship ceremony, who takes on their student loan debt and then fucks off overseas. They live in a different country. They apply the skills we paid for. They pay taxes there, they raise their families there, they live their lives there. They are not part of NZ culture, they have no loyalty to NZ, they are not part of our nation. But they get to vote and decide what we must live like. You think they are committed New Zealanders. Contrast to the person who's come here from overseas. They have invested all they have to come here. They buy a house, they raise a family, they work hard, they pay taxes - far more than similar Kiwis do. They bring skills, they bring knowledge, but more than that, they bring a desire to be part of New Zealand. They've invested everything, except the cost and time to get that piece of paper. You say a government piece of paper decides their commitment. Nah, mate. I value people far more than I value government.
being_a_lefty_is_so_unko@jetgalnz

@TheNzRocketeer Are they dedicated to NZ if they don't want to become a citizen? So all the other countries in the world are wrong?

Waiting patiently for the next @nzfirst policy release re MP's can only be elected if they have been born in NZ. And rejecting the concept of dual citizenship. You're either in or you're not.

@Lazza_58 @nzfirst So people who have lived here decades paying taxes and their own way but would lose their assets and potentially be spilt from their spouses and children should countries close their borders again have no right to vote in the country they call home. Go you.

@NzFubar @jetgalnz Well, when your complaint is "it will be more 3rd worlders will get citizenship and be able to vote, letting them vote after 1 year of Residency, don't you think there should be atleast a higher bar.
