🐝 We've been bee-sy! Our #ConservationDog Echo recently detected not 1, but 2 bumble bee nests! Every nest detected helps researchers learn more about where these pollinators live. We're so proud of our Bumblebee Dog’s noses, helping uncover some of nature's best-kept secrets.

OMB’s proposed overhaul of federal grant rules drew nearly HALF A MILLION public comments led by the scientific community - an extraordinary response and, as far as I can tell - among the largest public comment dockets ever for an OMB rulemaking.

@BearConserve Japan is rapidly expanding wind farms, both offshore and in mountain areas. Bears are being tracked with drones and shot, even during hibernation.

JAPAN CULL: In 2025 Japan culled almost 13,000 black bears. For 2026 the target is approx 8,800 black bears. In Hokkaido a management plan to reduce the estimated population of 11,600 Ussuri brown bears to 71% of its current levels by 2034 is under way. bearconservation.org.uk/2026japancull.…

Bad news for brown bears in Europe. Romania & Slovakia are seeking EU green light for mass bear cull. European agriculture ministers have largely backed the request. euractiv.com/news/romania-s…

"Extinction doesn't begin when the last individual dies. It begins earlier, when a population is cut off from the processes that sustain it. When mates cannot be found. When young cannot disperse. When genes cannot move. When a drought cannot be escaped. When a local loss cannot be repaired by arrival from elsewhere. When a patch of life becomes an island and the sea around it widens. Wildlife corridors are one way of narrowing the seas we've made." dailymaverick.co.za/article/2026-0…

The Director of USFWS Nesvik is no friend of wildlife, he was the Director of Wyoming Game & Fish who let Cody Roberts go with just $250 fine. Now he is trying to strip ESA protection from all of US Gray Wolves. Appeal by the conservation orgs is pending.

Never in modern American history have we seen this level of politicization of science. Federal research grants may now need to “demonstrably advance the President’s policy priorities.” Peer review will take a back seat to political approval. Scientists cannot remain silent.
