The mission of the Republic of Korea wishes to express its sincere appreciation to Vanuatu and the Core Group for the adoption of the resolution on ICJ Advisory Opinion. We anticipate that, while the resolution is not intended to create new legally binding obligations, it will help enhance multilateral cooperation and facilitate climate action. 🌏

On May 20, Ambassador Jihoon Cha, Permanant Representative of the Republic of Korea, gave a remark at the Security Council's 10154th meeting, an open debate on the Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict, celebrating the #PoC week. ROK 🇰🇷, as a responsible member of the international community, will continue to strengthen its efforts to advance the protection of civilians-including medical workers, children, women and girls, and missing persons- especially in an era where new and emerging technologies in armed conflict raise serious humanitarian concerns over civilian protection. #pocweek

" On May 19, Ambassador Jihoon Cha, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea, participated in the Intergovernmental Negotiations (#IGN) on Security Council reform, focusing on the debate on the five clusters.

On May 18, 🇰🇷Ambassador Jihoon Cha met with 🇷🇼H.E. Mr. Karoli Martin Ngoga, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Rwanda, and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation at the UN.🇺🇳

On May 14, Ambassador Jihoon Cha exchanged views with Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya of the Russian Federation on a range of current UN issues.

The Republic of Korea has joined as a co-sponsor of the draft Security Council resolution on respecting navigational rights and freedoms, through critical maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.

On May 13, 🇰🇷Ambassador Jihoon Cha met with 🇬🇪H.E. Mr. David Bakradze @BakradzeDavid, the Permanent Representative of Georgia @GeorgiaUN, and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation at the UN.🇺🇳

🇰🇷🇺🇳 Strengthening the ROK-UNDP partnership for the future. On May 11, Ambassador Jihoon Cha met with UNDP Administrator Alexander De Croo to discuss ways to deepen cooperation between the Republic of Korea and @UNDP. Administrator @alexanderdecroo De Croo expressed appreciation for Korea’s steadfast support and contributions to UNDP, including the flagship humanitarian initiative R.E.V.I.V.E. Ambassador Cha also highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation in the digital and AI sectors, including through the Global AI Hub.

On May 11, Deputy Permanent Representative Jongin Bae met with Ms. Elyse Mosquini, Permanent Observer of the ICRC. They exchanged views on issues related to international humanitarian law and ongoing humanitarian challenges. 🕊️

On 11 May, we were pleased to welcome a delegation of 20 officers and spouses from the U.S. Army War College to the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the UN. 🇰🇷🇺🇸 🎙️ The delegation engaged in an insightful Q&A session with DPR Amb. On May 6, DPR Amb. Sangjin KIM joined @WFPG and @Microsoft for a panel on "Learning & Educating in the Age of AI: Global Opportunities and Challenges” on the margins of the 11th #STIForum. Amb. Kim shared 🇰🇷's experience and perspective on responsible AI in education, the gender dimension of AI adoption, and the role of multilateral cooperation in bridging public and private priorities.
