On March 13th, Ambassador Jihoon Cha met with the Permanent Representative of Ghana (@ghanamissionun), H.E. Mr. Samuel Yao Kumah and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation at the #UN.

On March 12, Ambassador Jihoon Cha met with Guy Ryder, UN Under-Secretary-General for Policy. They exchanged views on cooperation between the United Nations and the Republic of Korea on the UN80 Initiative, AI, and other key areas. 🇰🇷🇺🇳

🇰🇷 On the margins of #CSW70, The Republic of Korea co-hosted a side event on AI & women's and girls’ access to justice with the UN Working Group on discrimination against women and girls, co-sponsored by 🇪🇺EU & 🇪🇪Estonia. 200+ participants joined the discussion on how AI — if left ungoverned — risks amplifying discrimination against women and girls. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Jihoon Cha stressed that international standards on AI must fully incorporate transparency, non-discrimination, accountability, and gender-responsiveness to strengthen women's access to justice in the age of AI. On March 5, Ambassador Jihoon Cha observed a #UNSC briefing on “Energy, critical minerals, and security” under the agenda item “Maintenance of international peace and security,” which was one of the signature events of the US presidency of the Security Council in March. Chaired by US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, the meeting explored the link between energy dominance and competition for natural resources, such as critical minerals, and its implications for the maintenance of international peace and security.

On March 4 (Wed), Ambassador Jihoon Cha met with Mr. Andreas Kakouris, Cyprus’s candidate for the President of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. During the meeting, Ambassador Cha listened to Mr. Kakouris’s vision and plans, and discussed possible areas of cooperation with the Republic of Korea should he be elected.

On March 2, Ambassador Jihoon Cha participated in a UN Security Council briefing on access to digital tools for children caught in conflict situations. Chaired by First Lady Melania Trump, the meeting marked the commencement of the United States’ presidency of the Security Council for the month of March 2026.

Today (March 2), Ambassador Jihoon Cha met with the Permanent Representative of Sweden (@SwedenUN), H.E. Ms. Nicola Clase, and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation at the #UN.
