"while you were sleeping" (1995) was never intended to be a christmas film but the studios made it one because they thought it would be easier to sell

meg ryan was the first choice for the lead role and actually passed on the film because of this. her team said, “why would meg ryan want to do this movie? she’s unconscious the whole time.” they ended up flipping the role and demi moore, nicole kidman, and julia roberts were also all in talks to play the lead at one point. sandra bullock ultimately blew the casting directors away and got the role, making it her first of many rom-coms.

fun fact: the original version of "while you were sleeping" (1995) had the woman in the coma and the man pretending to be engaged to her
