@AntoineBajolet @AlfinCodes Very cool! I forgot about my TI calculator... 58? Not sure about the model.
What is the third picture?

@RichHosek @AlfinCodes Trash-80! Loved it. The local Radio Shack had a section with the TRS-80s, and I think I spent the whole afternoon playing with it. The presenter of a local TV computer course and his assistant came by at some point, and peeked over my shoulder. 😍

@BovodioToad @AlfinCodes Love it. We worked on one in my 2nd year. Also booted a PDP8 by hand programming the load sequence... Good times.

@BJWhittingham @AlfinCodes Such a step up from the ZX-80. And the keyboard could double as an eraser in a pinch. 😋

@AlfinCodes But the damn thing was fun. 12K of memory, in 2 6K banks. If you wanted to jump from one area to the other, you had some work to do. Got it the last year of highschool, and it turns out there was a whole bunch of us Acorn Atom users when I went to college. 🥹

@AlfinCodes You think three red rings are a bad sign? How about a slightly warped light brown area on the case? The internal transformer was so heated that it practically burned an area of about 5 inches around it. Had to get an external power supply and hook it up to the motherboard.

@ClubFilth @exQUIZitely 286 owner, worked with an 8086 (XT) at a company. 😶

@exQUIZitely Oh yes I was there! 386,486,Pentium with AWE32 Soundblaster…
Golden times.

I know gaming is much more "convenient" these days.
No more fiddling with AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS files.
No fine-tuning HIMEM.SYS. No IRQ conflicts with your sound card.
You don’t need a boot disk anymore.
Juggling hard drive space? Forget it - drives now come in terabytes, not megabytes.
Dealing with a 5.25" floppy, a 3.5" floppy, and a CD-ROM drive all crammed into one case? What a drag. These days, you just click a button and the game downloads and installs itself.
Saving up for that shiny new VGA card to replace your trusty old EGA? Not a thing anymore.
And yet, if you ask older gamers who lived through the 80s and 90s, most of us actually enjoyed customizing and troubleshooting our machines. It was part of the experience - part of the joy and excitement.
Sure, it involved a lot of trial and error and plenty of frustrating “OMFG, why isn’t this working?!” moments… but when it finally did work, the reward was so much sweeter.
Finally freeing up those last couple of KB in your 640K base memory?
Replacing the pathetic PC speaker with a real sound card? Pure ecstasy.
Especially when your “Command HQ” eventually looked like this… oh, the glory days!
Too all you OGs out there, I hope you experienced it that way too.

@exQUIZitely I do not miss IRQ conflicts. Honestly, that might be the most under appreciated move forward.

@Grunt2A @exQUIZitely Percussive maintenance is a real thing. Still my favorite scene in BTTF, where Marty hits his head on the steering wheel and the car finally starts. 😂

One time I upgraded some component and the whole thing wouldn't boot at all. Wouldn't even post.
It was completely dead.
It made no sense. I couldn't figure it out. I spent hours diagnosing it with not luck.
Until I got angry and smacked the side of the case as hard as J possibly could in pure anger.
Damn thing booted right up.
I like to think I scared it into cooperating.
Best I can figure something was loose or slightly out of position causing a motherboard short and I just got lucky knocking it either into or out of place.
Man those were the days 😁

@CinemaTweets1 Wow, this is the most childish, dumb shit that people are falling all over themselves for??
Hopeless.

It’s been one week since I sat in a packed theater & watched #ProjectHailMary. I truly believe in my heart & soul that this film is going to kick off such an impactful year for Cinema. April is loaded & once summer hits, there’s no looking back. Cinema is in a great place.
English

@CinemaTweets1 So would you give it two thumbs down, question?
