Day 1 of the 2026 season today. Training camp in Tubbercurry for some of our riders, joined by @ronanmclaughlin. Building towards a successful year for the team. N.B. no feeds were given from the car 😉

I will never get my head around this fixation with a single ring up front to save 1 watt at 56kph.

@ronanmclaughlin @friebos @lequipe @cycling_podcast @larrywarbasse Amazing how the pro/WT reaction went from: "irresponsible journalism" To "We've never used it" To "We've stopped using it" To "Other teams are abusing it so it needs to be banned". Almost like the sport has learned nothing in the last 30 years.

Interesting piece in @lequipe today talking about the possible abuse of carbon monoxide in sport, & hinting WADA ban is imminent. Experts quoted also raise point I mentioned in @cycling_podcast a couple of weeks ago, though: CO in blood can come from pollution, smoking etc. etc.

All this talk of crank length got me thinking… what else might we be blindly following tradition on, but also, why we shouldn’t just hop on every trend. Be sceptical, but open to change youtu.be/9-JnizNt6iI?si… via @YouTube

Let's say, hypothetically, the UCI applies a gear limit. This would mean riders would spin out in high-speed descends, making them unable to speed up even more. Wouldn't that be great for riders like Mohorič, as the competition can't make up the aero difference with power?
Tratnikismo@Tratnikstan

Wout van Aert on safety: "Limiting the number of gears would make the sport a lot safer, in my opinion. Other riders don't think so. Yet I am convinced: if you are on that descent with a gear limit, no one can move up." cyclinguptodate.com/cycling/wout-v…

Anybody else looking at willow and wondering how many ultra fine mesh CFD runs you could do in a septillion years worth of super computing? 😂

Sometimes, reporting on UCI regs feels like banging your head against a wall. But there’s a clear line between Escape’s reporting on CO this summer and the UCI’s initial step to ban it today. If this new rule is enacted, it could quite literally save lives escapecollective.com/uci-seeks-ban-…

@irishpeloton Only “trying” yes - lock them away. But having the ability to perfectly accurately “split the G”….Should they need to, can be used as proof of nationality in the event of an emergency. E.g you lost your passport and want back into the country: Customs 👮‍♀️ - “split that G please”

So, what have we learned from @UCI_cycling in the past few months?…. Stopping to greet your family on a TT stage of Le Tour = bad for the image of the sport Penalising a clear rule violation, endangering spectators, & gaining an advantage - also bad for the image of the sport

@BenjiNaesen @SPoole89 All of this @BenjiNaesen and more. We all must learn to prioritise rider safety over the spectacle and the integrity of a results sheet. Too often interventions that could ⬆️safety are shunned to protect the show or worse interventions are made to ⬆️ show at the expense of safety

@SPoole89 Increase the safety standards for helmets, consistent and strict rider behaviour rules, reduce unnecessary vehicles, rules like team cars need to stay behind breakaways and riders need to ride to them. So fucking much.

Whenever a rider passes away in the sport of cycling, it’s like a stab in the heart. I can’t imagine what the family, friends and teammates must be going through. I know it’s impossible to know right now whether anything was avoidable but it isn’t just extremely sad, it infuriates me. Moments like these always feel too early to point fingers at safety issues, but I feel like it’s never too early to ask, at what point is the UCI responsible for the fact that I can count the pro-safety decisions they’ve made in the last 10 years on a single hand?

Credit where it’s due… the staff on @Ryanair flight Rk9559 from ALC-BFS last night (& Ryanair policies) were freaking fantastic with my daughters nut allergies & great in general. I can’t overstate how much that helps alleviate the stress of flying with allergies 🙌
