Happy Mother’s Day! I want to take this opportunity to honor my mother. We lost her on Christmas day last year so this is the first Mother’s Day without her. She was born Ines Daniela von Cziesch in Riga, Latvia in July 1935. She experienced WWII but eventually made it to the US where she became an artist. In addition to her art she had a passion for learning about and supporting Native American culture and the tribal communities in the Southwest. She achieved a Master’s Degree in Anthropology from Arizona State University. In the years that followed, she merged her education with her talent as an artist to capture many aspects of tribal life, both new and old, on canvas. She was a scientist with a paint brush… Although the paintings I’m showing here were from other genres (some of my personal favorites), she had created many hundreds of pieces from the many decades over her career. I miss you Mom!!

Are you guys making these delicious, easy “taco” thingys? I took about 3 ounces of seasoned ground chicken, spread it thin on a tortilla and cook the bottom about 1/2 way to brown. Flip over, cook until chicken is done, flip once more, add cheese (usually I use Swiss but I was out), cook (cover) until bottom is fully brown and crispy and cheese is melted. Add shredded lettuce, good Caesar dressing and grated parm. Then fold over, and serve your yummy chicken/Caesar taco wrap! I’ve made cheese burgers this way too. I love them!

I just saw that Mr George Galloway quoted my tweet, and it reminds me of when, as a political science undergrad at Nigeria’s premier university, I was researching the brutality of the apartheid regime in South Africa and came across his debate at the Oxford Union for the first time. In the debate, Mr Galloway spoke of a time he joined in the fight against apartheid in South Africa and asserted that he would never debate a supporter of apartheid because it is one of the worst forms of racism and fascism there are. It is a delight to see that he has remained steadfast in speaking out against apartheid, racism, and genocide, and that he has been consistent in upholding democracy, respect for international law, and the sovereignty of nations, especially those vulnerable to the whims of imperial predators.
